¡MEMORY! by LuthienCeleste

[raw]
made by LuthienCeleste for LD31 (JAM)
¡MEMORY! is a card matching game aimed mainly at kids.

It has a KID MODE (one screen mode) which avoids most ways in which a little kid could get himself trapped in a screen which is not the game proper out of which he is unable to get out.

Some time ago I made an icon matching game for my nephews.
They played it a bit but soon got tired of it. The main complain they had was when they got "trapped" in the options or credits screen unable to continue playing. I said I would make a mode for them with endless play and none of those screens so that they would have not difficulty.
But I never got to do it.

When I saw the theme for this Jam I was reminded about that. The one screen concept is the same as this KID MODE I was intending to implement.
The game contains several screens actually: tittle, options, game, etc.
I have interpreted the theme not as having a single screen but rather as having a single screen mode (kid mode). Here single screen is not a restriction but rather an improvement to increase the usability of the game for kids.

My nephews like it better than the 1st one, I hope other kids enjoy it also.
And they have not gotten trapped in credits either :)

This was fun enough to play but Some retry number or timer ( even an easy one ) would have make it more challenging.

This was oddly addictive to play. It would be neat if there were even more pictures behind the cards, and you needed to click to continue, since I wanted to look at some of them more. Very pretty.

Well, it's a memory game. I have also programmed a memory game for my niece a couple of years ago. I really like encounters like this in LD. The game itself is nothing special but sometimes its nice to make games like this if you know you have an audience for it.

Was fun for a few minutes and the card flip animation was nice. Nice job! It would be nice to see some sort of challenge/obstacle (timer) like said above.

It's hard to go wrong with a good memory game, and this a good memory game so it didn't go wrong. Nice and relaxing, but audio would have made it a tad more interesting. Good job anyway :)

I can rarely pass up a good memory game and in fact I used that recipe for my first game design tutorial. It certainly fit the theme well. Congrats on your entry.
