In short, this is our first Ludum Dare. I'm the story writer of our team. Interestingly, the story of our first game was written by our lead designer instead: Ernesty.\r\n\r\nTheme\r\n-----\r\nConnected Worlds is quite a nice theme. Well, our very first Ludum Dare brainstorming took hours, the timezones worked against us and we were already tired. Actually, I'm always tired, but that's a marginal piece of irrelevant information.\r\nAfter the first round of brainstorming, for the sake of variety, there came another one. Both of us came up with an idea, I choosed Ernesty's, I won't overload you with informations about my basic idea.\r\n\r\nGameplay\r\n--------\r\nWell, this game is more bark than bite, we totally ignored the battle system and tried to concentrate on two things. One of them is the 4 parallel worlds of the game, each missing one of the 4 elements. The other important part was the system of the NPC relations towards the player.\r\nAbout the 4 parallel worlds, that was the idea of Ernesty, and it was my job to visualize it. Well, I failed hard. I'm not a graphic designer I'm just an editor of pixel graphics, thus, Unlimited RTP Works. Cut, recolor, resize, paste, throw it out, rinse and repeat.\r\nMoral of the story: always plan in an additional software if you create parallel worlds.\r\nAbout the NPC relations towards the player, yeah, we learned a lot from this try. Now that I think back, it was a serious mistake to build this system in a game with parallel worlds. While it gives some edge to the gameplay, it becomes multiple times more complex as well.\r\nMoral of the story: open world RPGs where NPCs can have random texts have a lot of content, it just feels a lot less. Believe me.\r\n\r\nTechnology\r\n----------\r\nRPG Maker XP and VX Ace, Game Character Hub, GIMP 2.6, Notepad++, Wavosaur, Modplug Tracker, AIMP (Audio Converter) [and others we forgot].\r\n\r\nState of the game\r\n-----------------\r\nIt is playable. Mostly. Yeah, for our first Ludum Dare I find it a satisfying start, but the game is kinda full of placeholders. There's a lot of placeholder action in the texts and I could call my whole tileset a placeholder. At least I'm satisfied by my job at the NPC graphics.\r\n\r\nPost Jam?\r\n---------\r\nAt first I wasn't sure about it, but if this game will be my very first finished game, well, I want it to look and feel as good as it can be, I'll work weeks or even months on it if I have to.\r\n\r\n--- ooo ---\r\n\r\nETC (Ernesty The Creator) here, to give some technical infos (as my teammate told others):\r\n\r\nI am only missing the missing features, so that's why they missing: Multilingual support was dropped one day ago and the one character user interface was unfinished. But most importantly, the missing texts from the mouth of the NPCs. I think I am satisfied with the music regarding the narrow timeframe.\r\n\r\n\r\nPackage Informations:\r\n---------------------\r\nThis package was created with the intentions, to provide a full package without RTP (RunTime Package) dependency. So you just download, extract and run it. If you find any anomaly, or missing files, contact us, or download RPG Maker XP RTP from here: http:\/\/www.rpgmakerweb.com\/download\/additional\/run-time-packages#rpg-maker-xp\r\nThe package is 16 MB, so it is small enough.\r\n\r\nHost Informations:\r\n------------------\r\nIt is hosted on my home network server. If you unable to download it, there is two possibilities: 1) I don't have network connection or my server is under heavy load; 2) We have a power outage. I will search for alternative download locations.\r\n\r\nDownload locations:\r\n-------------------\r\nhttp:\/\/ 85.66.175.140 \/ ConexusTerraLD30.php\r\n\r\nABOUT THE GAME (a.k.a. TL;DR)\r\n-----------------------------\r\nYou are a wizard, who discovers the fourth element, bring a curse upon you. Now, you are shifting between planes, while search information. Talk with everyone and you will get your reward, when your relationship with the characters grows to a certain level. Good luck, wizard!\r\n","title":"Conexus Terra"}
