Solar Protection by withick

This is my first Ludum Dare Entry. You play the protector of a solar system trying to Conquer and upgrade each planet to protect each other from incoming asteroid. I am happy with many aspects of how it came out, especially the look of the procedural solar system. I wish I had incorporated audio but I just didn't have time. Some of the later game mechanics were also rushed at the end so there could some errors in the late game. All in all, maybe for this jam the journey was more fun than the final product, but I had a great time either way!

It's basically a complex turret defense game.
Some things need to be explained. I have no idea where the money come from, and why (it didn't from the start, but it did appear before I cleansed a whole planet).
The cleansing part gets repetetive really fast.
With a cleanup and bugfixing and audio this could be quite fun.

Hi there.
I had a hard time figuring what to do without instructions. Solar system looks good. So many places to visit! I like the design of the planets. Gravity works perfectly but it's difficult to jump on the enemies without losing health. Try maybe to give feedback to the players and short terms objectives to push him in the right direction at the beginning of the game.

As long as you did have fun I think it was worth the effort!

I think the overall idea is interesting and challenging as well, it wasn't that difficult to figure out what to do in order to play the game, but if you plan on working on a post-dare version (as I hope!) I think you may want to write a little "Help".

Other than that I would only fix the multiple jumps when you are on a planet, since the gravity makes you fly off into space as much as you want.

Good stuff!

I liked this. I thought it was pretty cool. The dual modes of planet view and then running around the surface of the planet was great. I found myself wishing I had a laser gun for planetary excursions. Maybe for version 2.0
