Card Smith by Archimagus

[raw]
made by Archimagus for LD36 (COMPO)
A deck building game where you try and blacksmith your way to victory.

This was take number 3. I scrapped two projects before settling on this one.
So this project was essentially started on Saturday at about 5:00 Est.

It's lacking some polish, but considering it's was about a half a jam worth of time I'm happy with it.

Sorry for the lack of tutorial, time was just too short.

How to play.
* Double click to buy/play cards.

* You can click the "Play all button to play all your non consumable cards to speed things up"

* You generally play all the cards in your hand each turn.

* It is a deck builder, you buy cards from the middle and top rows to add to your deck.

* When your deck runs out, your discard shuffles back into your deck.

* There are two resources, Coins and Metal. Most cards provide one of these resources.

* Playing these cards grant you those resources for the turn.

* There are also Victory Points (VP) which you mostly get from the top row cards.

* Just having the VP cards in your deck gives you the VP.

* You win by getting to 21 VP before the Computer.

* Cards you can interact with are highlighted in purple.

Typical strategy,
Try to buy cards that increase your money early on.
Then focus on cards that give a lot of metal.
Once you have a few "better" cards than your starter deck, use the apprentice and waste bin to start discarding the +1 cards to lean out your deck.
Once you have a decent base of cards, start buying the victory point cards.

Is there any tutorial or "How to play" section. I just feel so confused...

I have no idea how to play either, maybe you could add a how to play to your description section.

I found the game incredibly confusing despite the instructions provided. It is a shame because it does look incredibly well-made. Mind putting up a video tutorial or something?

Cool idea but the game itself is kinda confusing. Btw your name is Archimagus and the game I made is called Archimagic. What a day to be alive lol

Pretty good game - feels like Dominion. Good job!

Awesome game!
tl;dr for others confused about this game:
The game is essentially about replacing your deck with more valuable cards to buy items which give victory points and you need to get 21 VP before the AI to win.

Interesting! Would love some indication of how/when the game ends, so I know when to start buying VPs.

It's a cool game, but it would be nicer for it to be a little more simple. Card games are usually simple games that you can do a lot with.

was a fun little thing, managed to win my first match. made me a pair of excaliburs. That winning animation was cute, but the blacksmith in me must mention that you don't cast swords, you'd end up with a fragile mess.

Very neat, feels a lot like dominion. Wasn't able to win the first match, but got it the second time around :P Nicely done!

Card games are tough to do for game jams. Usually you need a solid built in tutorial to guide people around. Decent attempt though.

@loadsofmana I know... it was my nod to the trope and the scene from GoT. And pouring metal looks cooler than hammering :)
