(posting under Solifuge's account) \r<br\/>\r<br\/>Great graphics... I was surprised and impressed by how much the ending, well, surprised me. In a single moment I suddenly understood the entirety of the alien scene on the hill, which had previously seemed merely unusual. Though I read all of the texts and thought I had gotten a hold of the situation, it soon became clear that I truly hadn't understood them.\r<br\/>\r<br\/>That said, in a post-compo version it would be wonderful to see a more polished game with failure states and the like. I'm not sure I'm in agreement with the other users that full sound is necessary, but maybe some sound effects would do it? I remember that the lack of music in Myst really enhanced the isolating effect.\r<br\/>\r<br\/>Anyway, great game, and thanks for the polished experience."},{"author_name":"Celt","author_uid":"35130","time":"Apr 30, 2014 @ 11:42am","epoch":1398857820,"text":"The somewhat clumsy presentation together with the occult theme\/narrative made this one quite surprisingly interesting! It's impressive how much mood you managed to build without sound, but then again the creepy art style is really good and works wonders on this game. \r<br\/>\r<br\/>However, I would have liked to have seen more on the puzzle\/gameplay side of things. There are really only two "puzzles" in this game and neither are very difficult, but it looks like you were going for more of a storybook experience, which you succeeded at.\r<br\/>\r<br\/>Speaking of story, reading through the scrolls & books was a bit too verbose for my tastes, and wasn't terribly engaging because of that. There was a lot of telling rather than showing. On the other hand, the setting and especially the ending do a great job of keeping things mysterious and subtle. I would have liked to have seen that degree of subtlety in the reading material, too, as I always prefer to be asking questions about a mysterious setting than having things told to me.\r<br\/>\r<br\/>Still, great job overall! And nice job on the the post-compo version, too! The music and streamlined\/improved graphics really do help."}],"images":["ld29\/21736-539e6fcacebf84785229321ff8abb336.jpg","ld29\/21736-11171544b42a97d427087cb3df544304.jpg","ld29\/21736-de230810f15445d158df15f22583b29f.jpg","ld29\/21736-e89cc6c648e5e753412110b7773f0307.jpg"],"links":[{"url":"https:\/\/dl.dropboxusercontent.com\/u\/117427134\/LD29\/the%20longest%20way%20down%20-%20compo\/index.html","text":"Web"},{"url":"https:\/\/dl.dropboxusercontent.com\/u\/117427134\/LD29\/the%20longest%20way%20down%20-%20compo\/LD29%20-%20The%20longest%20way%20down%20-%20fullmontis.zip","text":"Source"},{"url":"https:\/\/dl.dropboxusercontent.com\/u\/117427134\/LD29\/the%20longest%20way%20down%20-%20postcompo\/index.html","text":"Post-compo"},{"url":"http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/2014\/04\/28\/the-longest-way-down-postmortem\/","text":"Postmortem"}],"metadata":{"g_key":"18697","g_author":"21736","g_event":"LD29","g_eventkey":"22","g_subevent":"COMPO","g_urlkey":"18726","g_title":"The Longest Way Down","g_status":"UCHK1","g_place":"447","g_commentcount":"25","g_site2_node_id":"0","g_hide":"N","g_has_icon":"Y","g_rqueue":"0","g_random":"0"},"nds":[],"node":null,"orig_images":["http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/compo2\/\/342546\/21736-shot0.png-eq-900-500.jpg","http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/compo2\/\/342546\/21736-shot1.png-eq-900-500.jpg","http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/compo2\/\/342546\/21736-shot2.png-eq-900-500.jpg","http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/compo2\/\/342546\/21736-shot4.png-eq-900-500.jpg"],"text":"A old style point-and-click adventure in an oniric world.
