Crown by mar3k

Crown is a micromanagement game, where you play as the king and have to make decisions to bring you kingdom to next level of technological evolution.
Every decision you make have consequences.

You have to be careful to keep the harmony of welfare, religion, army and money at good level, but also to make progress in technology.

Controls:
---------
LClick - interact with NPCs/sit on a throne (needs to be close)
W/A/S/D - move around throne room (only when you don't have visitors)
ESC - Menu
F1 - Display FPS/ticks

This game uses it's own Java powered engine built by me. Also sorry for the lack of music and sound effects, but I felt like it's better to have more gameplay and also I'm not talented musician.

I streamed the whole game making process (https://www.twitch.tv/mar3k_e3) and I will upload timelapse of it soon (or it already is there) to my YT (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYCsrAV6qFGTh2Lp4nUkLDQ).

Thank you for playing and rating!

Very nice game : awesome graphics but no sound in my computer. The gameplay is interesting but it seems that none of the bar at the top left corner of the screen grows up. Maybe I didn't play well, maybe it's a bug. Good work ! :D

Hi, nice game and congratulations ! Simple mechanics that still offered a decent amount of challenge. We're realizing a video with several games of the Ludum Dare #36. We made the same thing at the previous jam.

Can you add your game on indiexpo.net ? (it's free)
So we can include also your game in the video ;)
p.s. write #LDJAM in the game's description. (you can already find several games from the jam there)

This game needs some more atheism i refuse helping church. Also i wonder why cant i send less men to collect taxes for example i had 14 not used but for some reason i needed to send 20. I really liked your pixel art especially that main screen although i would need some work on perspective on doors.

That was pretty neat. It would be nice to add more scenarios. Very well done.

I get the following error:

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: com/sedlacek/ld36/main/Game : Unsupported major.minor version 52.0

I guess you compiled for Java 8 but I have Java 7 installed.

@gonutz, Yeah, just updating your Java should fix it, cause it's not the game's error, but Java error :/

Wow! Fascinating little game of chance. Played on Mac- worked fine. Needs a few options so that you can rescue yourself from the randomness and play a little longer- or at least have one more enterprising option to make money- but hey! I can only criticize because of how much gameplay you have going! I tended to get stuck in a "I can't take in tax because I have no men to send" situation- You could maybe solve this with an inflating/deflating tax system? Which could have even more repercussions- e.g."Why are the taxes raising again! They were just lowered!" All in all, loved it- great potential- hope you expand this into a larger game. Loved the art- especially the variety in the character design! Need to come up with a different way to select the taxman, soldier, and throne tho- more than once- I choose the wrong one- maybe a back out button for each option? Anyway- great job! Can't wait to see more!
