Sounds of Samos by phi
It's the world's most ancient loop station! Use gears to build a mechanism that plays various instruments, and drop sick beats like in the good ol' Pythagorean times.
The game features two game modes:
- Freestyle mode: Build whatever you want, use as many instruments as you like, and jam away!
- Challenge mode: Build a mechanism that replicates a given beat you hear.
HEADPHONES ARE RECOMMENDED!
Basic instructions are included in-game.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
TIPS:
- You can stack smaller gears on larger ones (only if the large one is already connected).
- Each instrument can produce two different sounds, depending on which way its gear is rotating.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The Challenges can get quite hard. I'd love to know how far you get.
THANKS FOR PLAYING!

I'm completely unmusical but I was able to play around and enjoy myself making a little racket.
How might it be adapted to work on touchscreens e.g. ipads?
(Was able to interlock gears in such a fashion that they ought to have locked up if they'd been real)
Looks very polished. Good job!
I didn't use an engine for this one, just plain HTML5 and Dart. I think I'll have to rewrite a lot of the code anyway, so I should probably switch to a cross-platform framework... Thanks for the hint, I'll look into it! :)
Fun: I feel like adding a bigger variety of instruments would have made things a lot more fun!
Theme: You did really well here! Definitely fit the theme, and your intro page helped tie it all together.
Graphics: Simple but it worked! I think it could be much better if you looked into some animations or particle effects to play whenever a sound is made.
Audio: As mentioned before, I think having some melodic instruments or other more interesting sounds would be pretty simple and would add a lot here! Also, the harp-like instrument was difficult to hear on laptop speakers. (I know, I know, I should be using my headphones)
Humor: N/A
Mood: I feel like your game was pretty minimalistic in terms of mood and theming. For a game jam I think this works well but to expand upon it it would be nice to have some backgrounds.
Overall: Pretty good job for an LD! I feel like being able to make more interesting sounds would add a lot here!
Congrats on finishing another game! I'd really appreciate it if you could leave some feedback on mine as well. You can find it at http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-36/?action=preview&uid=7285
I did to the lvl 5, after I stoped.
