We all have our secrets. You can only learn mine in the light of the square moon. But I will break this irregular curse and free myself from this torture!

Werectangle is a side-scrolling platformer about a square who turns into a rectangle sometimes. To break his curse, he'll have to defeat the one who bestowed it on him. It will be a short, and only mildly dangerous journey, because I know you're probably busy.

WASD or ARROW KEYS for control. Made in GameMaker Studio. Sound made with Bfxr. Only windows right now, maybe HTML5 soon.

Fun little game but it was way too easy and the graphics were really simple. Also, it was lacking background music.

I played it for a while, it was quite fun, but I got stuck on the second level? (with all the boxes going back and forth) and everything just froze. But I had fun until then, good job! :)

I laughed out loud when I realized what the moon was, as well as when the boss just instantly keeled over. Great stuff, and easy enough to play through without frustration. Nice!

@knason Sorry to hear that! The hit detection is a little dodgy, and sometimes causes the game to crash, but not sure how to fix it 100%.

@Mordokay Sorry about it being unclear! Bonk him on the head as a square, and use your groundslam(down arrow or s key) as a rectangle!

I agree with the lot saying it's difficult. The game doesn't hand-hold, and I had to die multiple times to figure out the mechanics/what was going on.

This wasn't a bad thing!

The responsive controls and short levels made death not that punishing, which thematically suits the "eternal struggle" mood.

Didn't rate in graphics category because that isn't where the game has merit, but want to honorably mention the moon. It's charming and stylistically consistent.

Pretty fun little game, with decent, clear graphics, good idea fitting the theme. It was a very fun puzzle figuring how to defeat the boss.

Fun little game! Didn't have any troubles with difficulty as others have commented. Made me laugh a few times :) Love the moon animation.

a game jam game with a little boss fight, nice! the game was a bit short but the mechanics could be a lot of fun if improved, definitely has potential!

I'd say it was easy to understand but I failed completely to understand anything about the boss. Collision boxes seem a bit iffy. Looks like you use c_green for the healtbar; c_lime is a much nicer looking choice. I love how the grown up wrecktangle looks.

The boss fight really needs enemy health bar.

Fatal error occured where I was supposed to press arrow down, and I couldn't finish the game. Apart from that, it was a nice little platformer.

You get points from me purely for the concept of a 'werectangle'! Also platform physics which feel pretty decent which I know is not easy. I have to say I didn't really understand the game mechanics though which made the final boss a bit of a trial and error affair (I hadn't figured out how the rectangle's attack worked as I'd never had to use it).
