Like a Lamb by dook

[raw]
made by dook for LD27 (JAM)
The Lamb has summoned you to his depraved little congregation to find the killer and traitor among them.

You join the Lamb's creations and must figure out which of them is the killer. Every ten seconds, the killer chooses another victim from a set of simple rules:

- Always kill one of the weakest members.
- If among the weakest members, panic, and kill one of the strongest.

There are three creatures, descending in strength: the Hyena-headed Furies, The Stags, and the weakest Cherubim.

Controls:
- WASD + mouse
- Click to accuse a creature
- E or Space advances text
- Backspace restarts the game
- Escape to free the mouse from the webplayer (as normal)

Notes:
I'm entering the jam instead of the compo because I ran out of time. I spent too much time on sound, graphics etc., but I'm rather happy with the result. The mood and style is pretty much the way I wanted it to be.

The graphics are made from scanned in drawings and most textures are simply high-contrast scans of paper. Most sounds (except the tick-tock) are made by me.

I haven't tested the Windows version in a whole lot of resolutions, so especially the text may look a little weird in some cases. Use the webplayer if you can.

I may upload a post-jam version with better rules for the killer, as it stands now you can't be sure to play a perfect game (i.e. letting the exact number of creatures die needed to know who the killer is).

Please share any comments, criticisms or bugs below :)

Took me a while to understand, but this is a really wonderful game. Great mood and I love the style. I would love to see it expanded on dook! Im putting this on my twitter right now this game is what indie is all about!

Wish there was a bit more depth to choices, but the mood and environment was great.

I liked the graphics, and the mood was good. I think the actual game idea was neat too... though perhaps a little simple? Would like to see it grow in complexity over time. Anyway, good job! :)

The concept is a bit too simple but the mood is actually really neat. The only thing with the graphics is the 2d models in a 3d world look a bit silly.

Great idea! I can never seem to get more than 2 survivors, though, without getting lucky :/ The tone was definitely done right :)

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah it feels more like an outline for a game at the moment. And the 'werewolf' game was something I had in mind, though it would need much more of an AI to work in the same way. But perhaps it's not a bad way to expand on the gameplay, to have more than one culprit. I'll brainstorm a bit I think. And feel free to do the same here! :)

It's rare that there are any games where mood is really applicable but this had plenty of it.

Very interesting game, Really stands out from the others I have played. Would have liked more ways to tell who was the killer

Wish for more choice, and kinda hard at first but nice job for a 3 days dev! And the graphic are nice too, kind of a new style!

I really like the mood of the game, and the sense of fread of having to wait to pinpoint the culprit, while he commits more murders.
Very different game indeed. Very nice job!

The mood in this game is EPIC! I was playing this at night, and found it even a bit scary!
Great job on this! You should try making a horror game in the future! I'd definitely play it!

I envy your art skill and originality. nice minimal writing, great mood. It just feels like you could do more in terms of actual gameplay.

Thanks for all the comments!

The drawings aren't fully my own, I'm really no good at drawing. I made them by sticking bits of other photos and drawings together, printed out a faint outline and drew over those with a pencil. Then I scanned it back in and worked on it in GIMP a bit. So they're something between a collage and paint-by-numbers... or something.

Great mood, graphics+sound! But I think it needs more rules... 10 second is pretty enough to make a decision and it's about too much luck, I can point out the murderer pretty soon just occasionally. Add some color meaning. Would be more complex to remember but much more fun to play.

This is definitely one of the most unique experiences in this jam. I love the mysticism-soaked story and athmosphere!
