Half the Time by ZeppelinCaptain
---If you play and comment, please tell me how far you got! That would be very awesome of you to do.---
---Setting and gameplay:
Half the Time is a top-down action game about only having 10 seconds left to live in. The only way to keep on living is to steal time from other people by killing them.
The Mayfly (the character that you control) is specialized in the art of spinning (think "rolling" mechanic from RPGs) and kills people in that way.
An alternative to killing is that if you have a special bond with someone, then you can share your time with them and thus let them keep on living (or take their time and lengthen your own life).
---Story:
In this harsh world a crippled girl somehow manages to survive and meets a man called the Mayfly. They fall in love and now he uses every day to gather time for her.
You control the Mayfly, but the story is mainly told by the crippled girl.
---Controls:
Arrow keys/WASD to move
Space to spin and advance dialogue.
But read the tutorial!
---Extra comments:
If you play the game I will love you, but if you also leave a comment I will love you forever.
For people trying to complete the game: the story ends at "good luck" but then you can keep on playing harder and harder waves until you run out of time (post your high score (best day)!).
You should also at some point try to let her time run out.
Wait a moment for it to load on Kongregate. There's probably a grey screen at first.

---Update (27/8/2013):
I consider this a "typo" error: I forgot to make a boolean check before she says I love you too. There are some instances where she is not supposed to say that, and now she doesn't.

Great game! You should think of taking this game further with sound and graphics. :)
I'm not really sure if I play this right. I kill everyone, then I'm left with nothing to do, then the level restarts when either mine or her time runs out.
But please don't hold back on the constructive criticism either! You guys have highlighted some great points that I might follow up on.
@netmute you have to collect a night stash (that dark blue square with a moon on it) which is randomly located in any of the four corners of the game area. Then you have to return to Her in order to advance to the next level.
It's not so obvious that the other people get stronger, when you suddenly need to hit them more often.
Also, why are the nights numbered 1, 3, 5 ?
I think the night-time object is unnecessary. There's often a point where there's not much else to hit in a stage, and once you get there, you just want to return, not go and look for something that may or may not have spawned..
I don't mean to sound critical with all this - I'm picking at what are some really minor issues, because your game is really interesting, and I think it's got a lot of promise.
got to night 5
I like the way you managed the narration part :)
Great Job, polish it up a bit and maybe it will be a good mobile game!
However, I got a bit frustrated by the collisions with the squares. I'm surely doing it wrong but half the time I'm sniping through them, and they don't die.
I didn't manage to sympathize with mayfly or the girl, but that didn't stop me from appreciating the narrative as a piece of art. And it was very much a piece of art.
I applaud the fact that you let the game continue even after the girl is dead. Because that's really just how life is... The world doesn't just go away when you lose. You have to keep living with it until you die yourself.
Great work!
simply great!
