Shape Factory by David Cookie

[raw]
made by David Cookie for LD35 (JAM)
Transform shapes with your bare hands in this musical/reflex game inspired by Rhythm Paradise (or Heaven, or Tengoku Gold).

Press arrows to use different moves and R to restart.

It's my 2nd Ludum Dare, and this time I used all 3 days! Turns out it's pretty effective ^^ Hope you'll enjoy it!

I love rhythm games so I'm partially biased, but this one was fun to play for sure. Could use more fluidity with the animations, other than that is almost addicting.

This was really nice. I like how the arrow used to hit each shape was very natural. I was terrible at it, but nice concept and cute animations.

Good rhythm game! I like the music too, and the difficulty scales well. I like the factory signage vibe to the graphics, and the use of transparency in the animations. One recommendation I would make would be to use a different colour for the factory shapes than the character, I sometimes got confused by that. I do like that they are the same colour when they overlap, it forces you to know what the shapes are by the time you hit them. Nice design there! Thank you for your submission! Hope you had fun making it :D

Awesome job, David! I really like the atmosphere here. The perpetual diegetic instructions are a nice touch, too.

Really cool! I love the interpretation of the theme!
The difficulty is well balanced (but too difficult at the end for me :D)
Good job!

Well that got hard when the help sheet fell of the wall (in a good way)! Good job!

Enjoyable rhythm game. I like the clean graphical style and the little animations add a lot. The sign on the wall is a clever idea. I'd have preferred for the game to be a little faster from the beginning. Anyway... very well done, congrats!

Fired, Fired and Fired :< I am definitely not good at it. I thought I was pretty good to rhythm game but well, the shape made my mind crazy. Each time hitting my head on the circle :/ Pretty good entry otherwise!

You make me laugh with your "Fired" messages :')
It's really difficult for me to balance well a rhythm game since I played a lot of them (Stepmania, Guitar Hero, Rhythm Paradise, Ouendan, Theatrhythm..), and finished all of them almost at 100%. It's basically my favorite type of game!

Would love to see someone play to my entry to find out how hard it is. Your message gets me a little worried Goutye xD

A decent little rhythm game, though it was kind of annoying when shapes would overlap with each other.

A funny take on rhythm games and oddly kind of stressful due to the memory component, even though it's only 4 things I have to memorise! I like how I get dazed if I miss with my head.

Nice take on the rhythm genre. I like the humor of the head smash.

It got pretty difficult pretty quickly. I think part of the difficulty is that the shapes are all the same color -- humans are inherently better at quickly recognizing and reacting to colors than shapes (unless they are color blind), thus why all the guitar hero type games use colors. Also, I'm not sure if they "dizzy" mechanic adds to the fun or detracts from it; I've already missed the correct shape so sometimes it felt like adding insult to injury lol.

It's a really fun concept! I am pretty sure I should not have been scored as high as a B grade though :) I like the factory setting and the belt, nice :) Great entry!

I got an A! I can see the Rhythm Paradise inspiration - the game was juicy, minimalistic, silly (in a good way).
I wouldn't punish the player for missing a beat by not letting him play. That felt a bit merciless... Also I think that some beats were a bit off but I could be wrong (I have an older laptop so that could be also the cause...)
Overall, it was a fun game!

cool little game, an interesting variant of a rythm game.
The musics and graphics suit well the mood
Even though, I got fired in the end ;)

Cool game, and the music was great!

I totally got fired though, I couldn't keep up! It was a nice touch to have the reminder on the screen.

so humor and interesting~! it provide a scene funny but with realistic meaning. and the rhythm have a great progress curve. the graphic a little bit flat, but mix together great enough. the best part is the music, it let me feel confort this scene verymuch, also enhence the hole atmosphere very well. cheers~
