Monster Jumper by panicq

[raw]
made by panicq for LD35 (JAM)
"In the year 3069, humans are finally living on Mars. This hot and dangerous planet hosts strange monsters, and because life is boring as hell, humans had to find a new sport : Shape shifting.
A shape shifter jumps into a monster’s mouth and reproduces the various shapes of the monsters' insides to get out alive. You are James Thrill-Seeker … and you jump to entertain the crowd ! And also because you're a fucking idiot !
"

And we did everything from scratch :)

Have a nice game !

I entirely love this game from the title art alone. Look at that jiggle! Daaaaaaymn.

When it comes to playing it, I find that changing shapes is really sluggish, but I can entirely believe that's my computer being not-very-good.

I liked the art style, definitely has some humour to it. But the button combinations you have to press are really awkward since there's no reminder or hint to pull them off unless you went into the tutorial.

Also not sure why, but I couldn't hear any audio.

The crotch bounce in the title screen was disturbing! The game is really fun, and I like how you used menmonic key combinations for the different shape. but I don't like the fact that there is a delay in the transformation, that makes the game almost unplayable.

I really enjoyed playing this game. It was a bit difficult for me but overall I found myself wanting to keep playing just to try and get further. Great graphics, amazing sense of humor, and an interesting and unique take on the theme.

I unfortunately couldn't work out how to play the game. It looks like maybe the Windows(Update) link is actually AZERTY now? I'm on a QWERTY, and when I press Q, the bar on the left of the game screen is showing me A...

The idea is neat and the presentation is cool, but the delay between input and the character changing their posture makes it really hard to react quickly enough. Also it took me a lot of time to remember the cotrols; especially the square I nearly never managed to do in time. Still, a solid engine here.

That's a bouncy crouch!
Idea is nice, theme is hylarious and art is amazing, but gameplay is a bit hard (and sometimes you get stuck on large hallways). Maybe instead of key combinations, single keys would work good.
Keep on! You have a nice base.

Bonus points for humour! Sounds were fun, could've done with some cheesy wrestling music to go with the spandex budgie smugglers. Could be good on mobile with gestures instead of keys, where you drew the shapes for him to change to.

To be honest, I'm not a fan of typing out the shape of the hole to pass through. While an interesting idea, the game fails to take into account the time necessary to type certain shapes out, leading to a lot of unnecessary frustration.

I do think the art is great, and the title animation is smooth. This tells me your team has a set of incredibly talented animators, so I was disappointed that the in-game animation mostly relied on physics. I'm curious how that came out to be.

So we can include also your game in the video ;)
