Heart Attack by wilbefast

[raw]
made by wilbefast for LD26 (COMPO)
A minimalist two-player competitive game written in processing, which breaks keyboards and inflicts grievous bodily harm to anyone who plays it.

Keys:
Spam 'A' and 'M' like crazy people.

Note:
This game was made during the "Exertion Games Lab" jam at CHI 2013 Paris, which happened to be at the same time as the Ludum Dare: I was able to convince the organisers to "encourage" participants to think about the Ludum Dare theme.
The full game featured integration with an Arduino heart-beat monitor, so was originally played by jumping around like a crazy person.
I didn't work on the Arduino code, but the game logic code is all mine, so I'm submitting this keyboard-only version as my compo entry as well.

Done in about... well actually only about 10 hours of actual work. We didn't have a good internet connection and managed to blow all the fuses in the building on the second day by daisy-chaining soldering irons (soz lol). Even so I'm not terribly proud of this: not up to my usual standards :/ I'll certainly do better next time!

I can see how this would be really cool hooked up to a heart monitor for each player, it doesn't work so well with a keyboard though. Keyboard repeat seems to break the mechanics of it too as you can just hold down A or M to shoot right to the top.

With a heart monitor, this allows for incredible fun. I imagine connecting it to ergometers in schools or the like, so that lazy-ass-nerds (like me) can have some fun in sports class (you would need to switch roles after each round, though). You could also reward keeping the heartrate in the optimal training range (which I forgot) by spawning more hearts there.

nice idea although it is mostly mashing buttons, it would be so much better with a heart monitor

I can only imaging how awesome the heart-monitor controlled version is xD Then it really deserves its name.
