Minimally Run n Gun by madballneek

[raw]
made by madballneek for LD26 (COMPO)
What if Unreal Tournament was developed for Atari 2600? This is what I imagine it would look and play like!

I would have liked to included, given more time, bots for the player (blue) team, but instead it's a handicap match! Expanding the enemy AI to include flag capturing abilities would have also been nice.

I hope you find the game fun. Please be honest in your rating and enjoy!

I keep getting gangbanged. The sound was a bit annoying, but I like the idea.

I love the idea of UT in Atari graphics!

Player movement is sluggish. Would help if the player moved as fast as the enemies. Good use of theme though and yeah if unreal tournament was on the Atari 2600 I bet this is exactly what it would look like! :)

Interesting idea but the controls are annoying (can’t go in diagonal; being blocked by the red squares; shooting on them seems to have no effect) and being alone against four enemies seems unfair. And the constant firing noise... Maybe I'm just tired... Also the game was wider than my firefox window, I don't see the point since it'll all hugely pixellated anyway. The game is smooth though.

Good idea. Player controls a tad floaty, and perhaps the ai's could have moved a little slower and shot less so you had more of a chance? I had a hard time ever getting a flag much less getting it back. Fun idea though. You should develop it further.

Whoa. Instant action. Very difficult. Would have loved some teammates or a ramp up to that difficulty. Good job!

This is nice, but would be quite a lot better if it had better support for pressing multiple movement keys at the same time :/

Very challenging! I like it!! Only one thing, if more than one movement could be done at the same time it would be better! Very nice game Btw!!

Where's the rest of the *$%*# blue team? :) Collision detection was kinda wonky but I got the idea.

The controls felt a bit floaty to me. Was able to capture a flag though!

Awesome! Maybe its just me, but I find it hard as f**k to capture the flay, but hey, thats how games were back in the days, righ? ^^ Really nice game!

Nice minimalistic game, fits the theme very well. Multiplayer would be great. But I don't like the controls, they feel really sluggish.

I get that the controls ramp up and down and I'm ok with it. The game would be trivial without that mechanic, but it seems like if you don't have immediate movements people complain.
Bullet behavior was really the only thing I noticed that was problematic. Maybe there's a brief invuln period between hits?

Pretty fun! Only problem was no diagonal movement, it would have liked multiplayer as well, but there's no way I would expect it :)

From what I can tell... (because I'm bad at high speed things) it is a great implementation with nice AI... too good for me to beat anyway... Picked up flag once but then swarmed. Nice one!

Pretty good use of the theme there and the gameplay is quite fun. The only main problems are how slow the player moves and how overly aggressive the enemy AI can be (I think I unfortunately got spawncamped by them on one playthrough XD)

Definitely needs work on the AI (I don't expect much from 48 hours though), but it's a cool idea!
