TLDR: MOVE WITH ARROWS AND SHOOT WITH MOUSE!!!!!11

This is my first time entering Ludum Dare! I made my game in Java, which I started learning approximately a month ago so that's the reason I for instance could not add sounds (don't know how to do that o:)

Because of silly timezones (and was busy on most of saturday) I only got to work like 16 hours on this. It's 4 am now o____.

Mmmh enough excuses! Originally, the idea behind this was that you are a person that's going the opposite direction of all the other people. People following the same stream. The other people are really dark gray, hard to spot in their dark gray environments. Your goal would be to add color to their lives. And I had some more thoughts around that.

But well here is my game and it's not quite like that. You move with arrow keys or WASD, and shoot colors with leftmouse button. If the dark people catch you up, you lose some mass, if you throw colors at people they will add mass to your body.
Also, you lose a percentage of your mass when throwing colors.
The enemies are intentionally hard to spot.

You lose when you don't have any mass left. I didn't have time to make a game over screen so it will just blink red and restart.

Oh well, might have spent a bit too much time on playing around with different ways of rendering the pixels.
Next thing on my to-do list would probably be to make world boundaries.

Minimalism because I only used dynamically semi-randomly generated pixels when rendering. Even the background is dynamically generated. Who needs sprites?
The filesize is indeed pretty minimalistic as well.

It's so long time since I've been occupied by a project in any intensity close to this! Feels kind of aweomse except for the part where I only get like 0~ hours sleep before school tomorrow.

Worth it anyway!

Yes

Hello?

ok

I was honestly pretty stressed while writing this wall of text. Submitted 10 secs before deadline :OOOO
Then I discovered there was one more hour to submit. Hi.

About the source, there's a package essential.game, which I wrote mainly a couple of weeks ago, rest is written within these 48 hours.

"Base code and personal code libraries are allowed, but should be declared and shared with the community prior to beginning your entry. To do this, make a blog post."
Uhm I think it's a little late to read the rules now but am I supposed to share that package before I upload? ok bye

Great concept! I find it amusing as my game was originally based on colors as well. I really enjoy the simplicity of this. Though the enemies are intended to be difficult to see, straining my eyes doesn't seem like a good way to add difficulty. All in all, good game.

First off I'll admit: I cheated by turning the brightness of screen up. ;)

Anyways, this game is very enjoyable and reminds me of a Flash game that I played some years ago, but then lost the link for, so I am even more happy, that this game exists! :)

Was pretty good, bit confusing because of how small the screen was but other than that it was quick to grasp and pretty fun to play. nice one.

Nice work! You may want to set the windob to be not resizable ;) Anyway... The concept is really cool, but since the bullets speed is determined by the distance, the clicked position hat to the center, you can exploit this, by setting up a (nearly) static circle of bullets and just camp inside it. You can solve this, by letting bullets die or give them a constant speed. Very nice work for 16 hours :)

Did not start for me. Also, don't name the file "game.jar", but "enlighten_the_night.jar" or similar.

Nice and pretty little game. The best tactic I found was to just stay still and spam bullets in random directions as much as possible, got up to 8618 before my finger to tired of that.
