Pineapple Dreams by Sergey Mohov

[raw]
made by Sergey Mohov for LD25 (COMPO)
Pineapple Dreams is a game about the good old ultra violence, in which I am the Villain, quite literally. The game shows what happens when you piss off a game developer and give him a baseball bat.

The game's aesthetics and gameplay were largely inspired by A Clockwork Orange and Drive.

Gameplay: avoid cops and kill everything you see!

Controls: WASD (or ZQSD if you're using an AZERTY keyboard) for movement, mouse for rotating the character, space bar for jumping.

Enjoy!

P.S. By the way, I made some other games too: http://sergeymohov.com

Nice game. BTW, I really agree with what you wrote on your blog, those are quite essential for jammers.

I like it... found the bat a bit hard to control though. Got used to it after a while.

Nice game! It seems that the best strategy was to just twirl like nuts though!

Very cool idea. Love the simplicity of the setting but the baseball bat needs a little work. Reminds me more of a flashlight right now. On the other hand it does fit the abstract style. The Sound is excellent and makes playing feel very smooth. Best of all is the AI behaviour though. Just like real people they run away and then stand around in groups to watch... ! Overall: it's a bit too easy, probably depending on your mouse settings. I was able to run around for quite a long time (600+ points) without any problem by swinging the bat rapidly around me. I guess we have to hope you get a Unity Pro version soon :D

Very Simple game, but very fun with a nice feeling. The music is a very good idea, having this small soft loop is very interesting and give to the game is own feel.
Good job

I'm glad I asked for the link to this game on twitter because it's really fun! I enjoyed it very much :) Sometimes I lost my game because I just wanted to read the chars comments. Really cool idea! Very nice conception. Love the colours :) Had a bit of trouble controlling the bat but i don't know if it was due to my mouse settings :P Overall it's very nice. I want more :D

I had fun playing this game. Pointing with the mouse is a bit weird though.

Thanks for the comments and for checking out the game, everyone! Your feedback has been most helpful.

I'm aware of the mouse weirdness on some of the mice, because the rotation speed is directly mapped to your mouse sensitivity, which means that game experience may differ on different computers (which I recognize as a valid problem), as opposed to, say, Super Hexagon.

This issue has already been fixed, and I will upload the new version once the voting is over, because it's a pretty big fix and would be against the rules of the compo, which I respect.

Cheers, and thank you for your time.

Very nice, clean little game. I would have made some of the larger "enemies" require a few hits, with some knockback & screaming.

Great job :)

Fun idea! Smashing things is quite satisfying. Love the jumpinh-animation.

The slanted movement does not work however, and is highly confusing. The connection of the mouse to the bat-position is erratic as well.

I've played your previous LD entry as well and I think you have improved a lot on the fun part.
The other parts are there as well: music, sound, humor.
I like it. I would like it even better if I could really swing the bat.

It's a bit difficult to control the bat, but the sound effects work nicely.

My only criticism is that I really started to panic when I could not find my mouse pointer, especially when I wanted to close my browser tab.

Very cool art and fun addictive gameplay. However, I found that the victims procrastinated a lot... ;)

A few platforms and projectiles would make this more interesting, and give jumping a purpose.

Dude, this game is so much fun! Very nicely done. I don't think I have any suggestions to improve it right now.

The fact that the game is just squares and that trial version at the bottom right corner just add to the experience of why the developer is pissed off :D

You might be surprised, but I had a "Drive" feeling from the cops. Was that a part of it, or did you mean more the aesthetics? I watched it recently and the introduction of the movie really stuck to me, with the police cars. I saw somewhere it was intended to be like "swimming in a sea of sharks", and my first feeling was: maybe I'll make a game with this concept!

Anyway, good going.
