Breuoakt by Dan C

[raw]
made by Dan C for LD24 (JAM)
I was originally going to make a C64 game for the main competition, but unfortunately I screwed up something important and couldn't finish.

So, I threw this together in the last few hours on Monday for the jam, completely ignoring the theme.

It's not really finished and is missing a major feature I wanted to include, but it's playable and kind of fun.

Enjoy!

An interesting take on breakout :) I really like the music. The miss sound effect reminded me of Chip's Challenge's bummer.wav - made me chuckle :D

Did you take any graphical cues from the Juice It or Lose It video? The wobbling effect reminded me of that, but easily a coincidence since they are both breakout games already :p

Huh, cool concept, and nice music. What is there seems relatively polished, too.

I liked the feature where you had to give the ball velocity with the paddle :) haven't seen that in a breakout game before. innovation points!!1

So you think that the rocks were unfairly difficult to see..? Yeah, should take on account that not everybody well, I guess that any people with bad eyesight have big troubles on there. So good point.

I think I've used to read so bad handwriting (my own) that the text quality didn't bother me at all. Didn't even think that it bothers someone that much, so good point there too.

awesome evolution of the game mechanics from breakout. loved the little animation for the bricks coming back in and the little audio clip for loosing. very impressive for what you did with your remaining time after the first attempt. great job!

What a great little game for the time you had left! Seemed to work pretty well and the music was good too. Well done!

Oh now that's clever. I really like the way the blocks pop back in. I consider myself pretty good at Breakout, but I could only score 66 points at my highest. Must try harder...

Why did you ignore the theme? :(

This game has kinda "been seen before", the gravity mechanic added some extra to it, but not that much. I liked the "Awwww" sound. Sometimes the framerate would experience small hiccups, which were really fatal considering how smooth the mouse movements have to be in order for you to hit the ball.
