Jumpers in Love by Alink

[raw]
made by Alink for LD24 (COMPO)
Goal:
Save 10 little jumpers by reaching the dark exit. Help them by selecting the best jumpers to create breeds strong enough to pass the obstacles.

How to play:
Click make them fall in love (click again to undo). Smaller heart indicates the rest period. Scroll with the arrow keys (or WASD). Simply hovering with your mouse will freeze it and change its direction when released (can help sometimes). Press 'space' to restart the level.

Tip: Crossing related individuals (=having similar colors) create less new mutations. Try to preserve some diversity, because an army of clones may be an evolutionary dead-end.

There is an in-game level editor!

See webpage for details (also genetic rules and debug hotkeys).

I like this idea a lot. The last level was probably my favorite. Your actions felt more meaningful when you start with so few organisms.

Thanks and good point, I should have used that more. BTW, I just added info about the level editor in the description Unfortunately, population is hard-coded for each level. But I guess you can make a level where most will spawn in a death trap, leaving only few survivors to save.

Very interesting idea. I enjoyed watching these little guys jump around and poop out little babies.

I don't think I've ever seen a level made out of entirely circles before. I like

I love this idea, and it's well executed. The little guys and gals look cute and have pretty distinct behaviour. I don't feel like I'm having much influence on their evolution though. Maybe that's because the most successful ones reach the exit before they get to reproduce :(

Glad that people likes the look, I almost regretted losing early time on animation, but I thought that making them seem alive and cute was important for this kind of shepherd game.

Andrew: It was for easier map creation. Still was a challenge because the little guys were bad at climbing circle. Also why I focused more on jumping.

Frozen Fractal: You can make them turn around by hovering with your mouse. This give you a tiny bit of control to help to reach the exit or keep some good ones for reproduction, or even make them go back help the bad ones blocked at the start. Interface not perfect, but hard to balance because too much control was not wanted.
