Cute music. I felt the gameplay was a bit too confusing. It was never really clear to me why two poggles would have a child or what to expect when they did. Likewise, I never figured out how to change the climate of the stage. As I was typing this I left the game running and won! Probably a sign that something isn't right ;-) I would try to make things feel a bit less random."},{"author_name":"davidwparker","author_uid":"7737","time":"Aug 27, 2012 @ 3:28am","epoch":1346037780,"text":"Interesting idea and fun to play... I felt a bit frustrated by the ever multiplying poggles. I think if you changed the breeding mechanic to a manual one of, say, dragging a poggle into another poggle to force them to breed, it'd make the game a bit simpler, and allow the player to plan better. Zapping was fun, but slow. Instead I preferred to go for mass extinctions using the terrain modifiers, they were really cool."},{"author_name":"renatopp","author_uid":"15241","time":"Aug 27, 2012 @ 10:48pm","epoch":1346107380,"text":"Oh man, they are like mutant rabbits! However, I don't like that you have to wait for the cloud to charge up... in this respect the beta was better. It shows a lot about how games can give us basic understanding of these concepts. For example, keeping a much smaller climate where your Poggles can survive increases control over breeding, much like a laboratory. Amazing.\r<br\/>\r<br\/>From a casual gamer's point of view, it's pretty good, too!"},{"author_name":"marudziik","author_uid":"5431","time":"Sep 8, 2012 @ 10:57am","epoch":1347101520,"text":"Huh! Our games use the same mechanics, actually, so it's no secret that I really like your entry. Great minds think alike, I suppose! :) But yeah, your entry is great - the graphics (animations!) are awesome and the game gives player a little more control over mating (this is a GREAT idea, I've done something like this only in the post-compo version).\r<br\/>\r<br\/>That being said, it does suffer from similar flaws as my own game, of which main two are: the overall feel that achieving the goal might be pretty random (and somewhat independent of the player), and (still) to little control over mating and which Poggle dies and which doesn't (lightning bug + it takes time to load). I tried to battle similar flaws in my own entry, but I'm still not entirely sure there's a good way to do it.\r<br\/>\r<br\/>Overall, the idea is perfect (I should know), this is as close to the theme as it gets, graphics are awesome, there's even some music. It's fun to play, but it's still more of a simulation than a game, so it targets a specific group of people, I suppose (like me). Should I add that I loved it? :P Great job!"},{"author_name":"Pierrec","author_uid":"1874","time":"Sep 8, 2012 @ 3:26pm","epoch":1347117660,"text":"Reminds me of marudziik game I played earlier. I guess the only thing few things to complain about would be the lightning taking a long time to charge, and sometimes it would take 2 creatures forever to engage in hot steamy sex, and other times everyone just couldnt get enough, and eggs would spawn INTO baby making sequences, and creatures would be popping up everywhere, haha. So I guess it was a little weird how that happened (Or maybe I'm misinterpreting? Do different types of creatures simply not engage?) Also, the climate change thing was a good idea, but it was kinda pointless; Whith the goal requiring a furry or not, then there is no point to have the climate support the other type, right? So I would just make the climate of the whole stage support the goal creature. The climate change would have been good if there were simultaneously more than one goal creature, and were different types. A cool feature would have been to mate creatures by clicking on one, dragging the mouse and then releasing on another one. Would have made things quicker and easier. But yeah, overall, nice entry."},{"author_name":"robcozzens","author_uid":"10944","time":"Sep 10, 2012 @ 11:28pm","epoch":1347319380,"text":"Pretty cool man!"},{"author_name":"atraxgames","author_uid":"15195","time":"Sep 14, 2012 @ 1:53pm","epoch":1347630480,"text":"It's similar to mine. To evolve the kind you want, you'll have to remove Poggles with undesired traits from the gene pool. Achieve success by strategically killing off sections of the population via climate change and sniping individuals with lightning bolts!\r\n\r\nThere are further instructions in the game. For the best experience, please use an up-to-date browser like Firefox or Chrome.\r\n\r\nTips:\r\n- The features of a new Poggle are chosen randomly from its parents. Identify which Poggles could have the baby that you want, then try to get them together.\r\n- Colors don't mix: red and blue Poggles have either red or blue babies, not purple.\r\n- Don't be afraid to control the population by wiping out whole sections with climate change.\r\n\r\nKnown bugs: The lightning doesn't reach to the bottom of the screen. Just knock your targets closer to the top.\r\n\r\nPostmortem blog post: http:\/\/www.ludumdare.com\/compo\/2012\/08\/27\/poggle-island-postmortem\/<\/p>","title":"Poggle Island"}
