Darewin's Missing Link by Nidjo123

made by Nidjo123 for LD24 (COMPO)
This was my second Ludum Dare participation and it was awesome. Had a lot of fun, learnt a lot... Anyway, inspiration wasn't the best 'cause I really wasn't expecting this theme so I ended up with some "jumping scroller". It's simple but kinda fun. I spent most of the time drawing animations which was exhausting but it paid off.

You start as a young Darewin (e is on purpose!) and you get older as you progress through the game. You just run and jump, run and jump, run and jump... There are four bosses which you have to pass and in the end there's a little secret for all you game makers which I hope you'll understand. :P

Thank you Ludum Dare community for your awesomeness and fun!

*If it doesn't run, try downloading the jar, and running command "java -jar LD24.jar". You must be in the same directory as jar.

I like it. Very stylized. The game play could have been more exciting, and collecting spears was a bit confusing. I like the ending though. Good job!

The graphics are a unique blend between programmer art and pixel art. Gameplay is cookie cutter with little innovation. Like I said in my comment, the spears were confusing. nice ending.

Haha, that was great! The art was both pretty and funny, and I found that the game was short enough that the gameplay didn't get repetetive.

This is one of those games that sums up Ludum Dare for me. Its not the most amazing game in the world, it doesn't look the best. But it has such a odd concept and design you wouldn't get from someone spending ages on making a game.

Gameplay might be a good time waster with its one button input. Now my only question is, those spears... Why do I have to let them hit me to get them haha. Nice work.

There were a few long period were the opponent on a few of the levels was just standing there, not throwing anything. Maybe I was unlucky with your random number generator? Otherwise, pretty solid effort!

Well that was interesting...

I found the level where you must jump into spears pretty counter-intuitive, especially considering you need to avoid getting hit by the same spears in the game's last stage.

I liked the jumping mechanic, though the speed of it probably could have used some tweaking. There were also periods of time where the enemies just didn't do anything...

But all in all, a nice, strange, entry.
