Growing Tree by Devaki

[raw]
made by Devaki for LD24 (COMPO)
Unfortunately I didn't have the whole 48 hours to work on it, so this is a very unpolished game, i apologize for that.

This is the first time i did Ludum dare , and also this is my first actual game :) , so you might not like it, but anyway I'm looking for your feedback, and wish you all best luck!

About Game:

I tried to make the player a growing arm of a tree, and water flows through it. You can use arrows to turn around the arm (don't keep pressed , press multiple times instead, as if there are paths), so you can avoid collision with blocks and enemies. As time passes, player will encounter with (in order) Fires, Bacterias, Bugs,Axe, Bombs and UFOs.
I am not an artist to that is what i could do. But i hope gameplay is interesting, and will inspire people to do such games.

My Tools:

Unity3d 3.4.2 (Basic)
sfxr
Musagi023
Paint.Net
Microsoft Visual C# 2010 Express
Blender

Happy LD24!!

Interesting! Going through a tangled, organic cluster of things is cool. My criticism is that the camera angle made it difficult to make meaningful movement decisions and the sound was rather repetitive. Congratulations on your first game though!

I like this game. It's quirky and unique. My only complaint is that it's hard to see what's happening at times, so dodging things can be difficult. Because of that, I didn't get past fire D:
I liked that little tuney-thing going on in the background.

Thank you guys for your feedbacks, i'm very happy that you liked it.
The sound was unfortunately made in a very limited time, it is a 27 second music looping forever by in musagi only.

Camera angle was not optimised, it is not as smooth as i wanted.
iandioch, the blocks are seen from only one direction , this is something i overlooked. The plane meshes are one-sided instead of two (blender issue). I'll fix that in further developments if i decide to go with this :)

Interesting idea. The music? gets annoying after a while, but I like the idea. Sometimes it's difficult to see the fire. And I noticed you didn't fix the width of the "Agai"-Button ;) Well done!

I got to the end of a branch and then it stopped. It was a great concept however, I've never really seen that idea implemented before, just be mindful in the future of the camera more.

Cool game.

It was an interesting concept, but really hard to tell what was going on.

It is hart to tell where exactly the fire is so it makes it hard to avoid it. Also sometimes the branches clutter so much, that you miss the track of water.
Anywa, cool concept for a game, but could use some more tweaking.
I really like the music though :D

Liked the art it actually looked fairly good.

Should have gone with a 3rd person camera rather than the lookat/orbital style camera but apart from that it was good.

Pretty cool, camera is obviously a problem.

Good effort for 48 hours and first game! The view was a bit confusing, you couldn't always see where you were going and where the enemies were.

It is hard to tell on which side of the branch the obstacles are, especially with the fires that seem to clip through the branches. The actual tree looks very cool though, very organic. As some other suggested, a 3rd person camera could work better for this one. With that and some smoother controls this could be one sweet rollercoaster.

I like this game ! The only problem is the camera.

interesting game concept. sometimes the obstacles couldn't be seen because of the angle they where placed at. good job otherwise, loved the music.

Its a cool idea. The controls were a bit quirky, but a cool concept.
