Evolization by arzi

[raw]
made by arzi for LD24 (COMPO)
Evolization is kind of a 'Civilization with evolution' game. Obviously it's very simple, but all the basic mechanics are there. It doesn't have any set goal, so you can go on playing as long as you like. As I didn't have time for very long test sessions during the LD, I'm interested in hearing how the game works on later generations.

Edit: Few instructions:
- You can scroll with the middle mouse button (usually the the mouse wheel)
- The green 'trees' are food.
- The blue dots above the pieces are movement points, the red boxes are the hunger level.
- Every generation (you can see turns left until the next generation in the top of the screen) each piece you have spawns an additional piece.

A great little concept! I found it very difficult however because I could never find enough food to stay alive. With more work I think this could be a really nice game.

Well, it's fun and interesting. There's a huge amount of luck required to go far though. I have not yet managed to reach late generations for long, as circumstantial luck becomes too great a factor over time.

Graphically the colours are a bit dark (could've done with being a bit brighter), but the models work well, and the UI is very clear and comprehensive which is always good.

Overall a neat little game, but can be rather frustrating when you lose >__>

I actually really like the look of the game. I was able to evolve quite a few times. Only thing I couldn't figure out is how to move around the scene to select other items out of view.

Rather addicting, I found myself playing it for a longer time than most games. Really refreshing concept. Good job.

A couple of things that left me scratching my head,
I was unsure of my moves since couldn't tell how many move points I would have from one turn to the next. As well spawning was a surprise to me. I think it is simply missing a bit more telegraphing or at least explanation of the strategies and workings. Other than these small points it has a ton of potential!!!!

I had the same problem, I couldn't find enough creatures to survive. But the graphics are pretty nice.

What happens when you evolve?

A well done game, there aren't enough trees in the game to keep you not hungry but with a bit more work this could be brilliant game. But a good game for the 48 hours it was made in. Well done

Great idea, I would like to play a post-compo version where the hunger bar is a little more forgiving, or perhaps you can see the full map to plan the best routes to food etc. Good work overall

really nice concept!
Just has some minor usability issues, I had three dudes, and couldn't control one which was outside the screen, if there was some HUD elements to see your dudes, that would've been awesome.

Nice game, I ran out of food, and died. Good idea, it was fun.

The 3D fog of war and the perspective blurring was really nice. This concept could be leverage to make some really cool games. Great job.

Ran out of food while running for my life. Could potentially make for a nice multiplayer game.
