HiveMind: EVOLUTION by pixelballoon

[raw]
made by pixelballoon for LD24 (COMPO)
*** UPDATE (3rd September 2012) ***

Windows build now available. Unfortunately only just found the time to do it! It's only been tested in a virtual machine so if you run into any issues please let me know. If you get issues with missing MSVCR100.dll you will need the 2010 C++ Redistributable from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5555

I've also posted up a time lapse of development.

I might try and get it ported to Native Client for fun if I get time, we shall see.

For now though, time to rate some games!

--- Summary ---

You're an alien race invading the well defended planet Kathulog.

Your invading forces are quite weak, but have the ability to evolve.
Sacrificing one of your own ships by clicking on it will encourage the hive mind
of your queen ships to produce ships closer to that specification.
The produced ships are randomly mutated over time.

Mutated parameters are:
Defense ~ The larger the surrounding orb, the more health your ships have.
Fire Power ~ The longer the projectiles, the higher power they are.
Fire Rate ~ Ships will fire faster.

TIPS: Be quick. The first few seconds are very important.
All difficulties are possible, you just have to use the right strategy.
Keep mutating, your ships slowly devolve over time.

It took me a while to actually understand which side I was on and what the controls were. This is all described in the main text, I must still be struggling from the weekend. The difficulty really ramps up, but this is a really good LD entry. Well done pixelballon
