Oneway by azurenimbus
NEWEST UPDATE : Released new post-jam version, I think it's pretty cool. :D A bunch of new mechanics, 44 levels in total, some other snazzy stuff. Please try it and let me know what you think either here or via twitter: @azurenimbus
UPDATE 1: Noticed a small bug that wouldn't allow the game to stop after STAGE 1. I fixed it, but nothing else about the content.
To play: click to start game, then use the up and down arrows to select an organism.
You have to make it to the end without letting it die!

I can't believe I got this in, barely in time, I nearly had a heart attack!
Unfortunately I only got the mechanics fully working about 10 minutes before the deadline, so I only had that time for level design! I haven't even had a chance to try it out yet :D
I will work on the levels and then upload a post-compo version.
Used Stencyl, Adobe Illustrator and GarageBand (no loops this time).
Let me know what you think, and if you played just the original, please come back to try the next version!
Thanks!

If I pick the top one, the game frezzes
If I pick the bottom one, it keeps going, then the screen turns white... and nothing happens.
Graphics and audio both works very well with the game :)
Despite a nice progression in difficulty and the fact that you wait to introduce the player to blue barriers, I feel that you should take the player by the hand and guide him a little more : It took me ~5/6 tries to complete a level with no luck involved.
Letting the player discover the mechanics by himself may profit to some game, but not to this one.
Anyway, you did a good job. With a little more content and polish it could easily turn into a "bookmarked for lunch break" game :)
I liked it. It's very simple but fun. With more levels, it could turn into a cool and frantic "think-fast/act-fast" game... with the blue barries, you have to understand the pictures quickly and then think the correct strategy for them.
The asthetics are also very pleasing... both sound and graphics fit well the game, even being very simple.
Would have liked the selection change to feel more defined though so I knew I'd made a selection.
An idea: an endless mode that procedurally generates the next item to remove or add. Would be neat ;)
Very simple game, nice sounds, but nothing I'm motivated to keep playing it.
But it looks good and is original (although I don't see the theme in it).
The repetitive sound effects become annoying after a while, I think it could be improved by having some varying rhythm instead of all the notes being short and evenly timed. In its current form, I'd say the game would be better off without the extremely short loop in the background.
Gameplay-wise, the initial impulse I had was to try to match the shape displayed, but it's the other way around (I see you changed it in the post-jam version, good call).
The game ends before providing any real challenge but as you mentioned, that's out of lack of time more than anything else. The post-jam version makes it clear you had more in mind.
The one thing the post-jam version did wrong compared to the jam one is the ability to change your mind after selecting an element. When I realize I made a mistake, the post-jam version forces me to wait instead of allowing me to quickly update my selection by clicking again.
