Mutasite 1991: Attack of the Mutagenic Parasites by Cake_Catastrophe
Too ill to explain. You mutate, parasites, top-down shooting. It's a game, play it.

@JaJ: Understandable, I felt like I got a bit too bogged down in making the mechanics solid. I'm definetly going to be a bit more experimental with my next LD game.
@josefnpat: Sucks to hear that. I'll probably use Love2D or HTML5 for my next game.
@commanderstitch: Glad you enjoyed it enough to reach the end! Yup, you receive a random mutation each level and if you die you get a different one. When you complete each level, the mutation you completed it with becomes permanent. So the mutations that are most helpful live on, while ones that get you killed die off (essentially, survival of the fittest traits). To the best of my layman's knowledge, that's evolution.
Also, apologies if the abrupt ending is a bit unrewarding. I had this completely gonzo plot in mind, but I was struck down by flu on Sunday and wasn't up to writing it.
I ended up with no con, no life, and no speed. Yet an ungodly range. It basically made it impossible. If you wanted players to really evolve, you should give them all the traits, and then permenantly assign the one that made them complete a level the fastest. This would give a better 'natural selection'.
