Evo Towerwars by Rialgar

[raw]
made by Rialgar for LD24 (COMPO)
Self Evoluting creeps attack you and you can only defend by cultivating your defense towers.

Warning: difficulty can vary each time, because mutation is based on random values.

You can sell buildable towers to make room for new ones, do NOT sell the last one, or you will loose. No win condition, I might add high score as an addition later.

Tested under Chrome and Firefox and Safari, best under Chrome.

EDIT: Added Safari support late, I remember "cross plattform" issues are allowed to be solved later. I had problems with svg animation, read more in my postmortem later.

EDIT: Source is included, since it is all Javascript

Interesting way to combine the concept of evolution with a tower defense game. I'm horrible at tower defense, but having no control over how your towers were going to upgrade was interesting. If you continue to polish it, it would be nice to have some kind of graphical distinction between towers.

It's a solid tower defense game and very impressive considered that it's all SVG. I especially like that enemies get lighter when they loose HP.

The graphical distinction between towers could be more intense. Also: In a full maze with lots of enemies, some of them begin to lag or get stuck in corners. Happens very rarely though.

My highscore: 1047

Thought it was an interesting game. The UI was a little weird, and I thought it made for too much movement and mouse clicks when deleting and upgrading towers. Would have preferred to just build on top of the existing to cut out the cancel/click on tower/sell. Not knowing how the tower options would evolve was neat, but it sucked when I accidentally deleted the best one I had at the time since I wouldn't get it back. I thought the tower graphics was interesting. I played it a couple times before trying again and reaching 6443. At that point, I had grown tired of the tower upgrade routine so I stopped evolving new towers.

Tried to sell some towers, and my "new tower icon" disappeared. :) It seems that I've sell it.

I kind of like the tower defence game you've made here. If you could add more content (e.g. sounds, graphics, gameplay) it would make it even more kick ass!

I always do enjoy a tower defense game and this is a good one. the game feels smooth. The enemies move a little quick and early game this makes it quite difficult to keep the under control but the game still had me addicted for some time

As you say it's tower defense as usual, but quite well done. It took me a while to realize the benefit of evolving - apparently sometimes you can get stronger towers for cheaper costs.

imef: might you tell me what browser you are using?
kato9: well, yes, but then it is slower or has less range.

i think the base turrets should fire faster--i got clobbered on the first few runs just from the creeps outrunning my turrets.

Tower defense gameplay was solid enough, but would have like some more informative graphics on the towers and enemies. Also would be nice to have some variations on the board - since its a perfect grid, there's an optimum placement and the player isn't able to strategize/experiment with placement. Good job with the smooth HTML5 gameplay!

Pretty fun entry. I would have loved to have some audio though.

I played your game during more than an hour!
Best score: 2066
Best tower: 11.7 1.7 0.1

Nice game.
The only problems I see are:
- the bullets are hitting the previous position of the minions
- Performance issues when there is a lot of ennemies / bullets at a time.

Good job!

Twist on tower defense. Your GUI is very clean and easy to understand so I liked this more than most other TD games I've played here so far.

I do feel the evolved towers could have different graphics to differentiate them, also some more animations etc. would not hurt.
