The Origin of Valmalvax by nuria

[raw]
made by nuria for LD24 (COMPO)
Weird, experimental, shmup / strategy game.

You are in control of a creature that will evolve depending on how often you perform certain actions.

Shooting, moving around, eating the corpses of the creatures, taking oxygen and enduring punishment will fill your meter a little. When you completely fill a bar, you won't see the benefits immediately. You will transfer that experience to your descendants, so when your lifetime is over and you die, they will take your place as your evolved form to continue your journey.

CONTROLS
Mouse - move cursor. When your creature is overlapping the cursor it will shoot automatically.

Left Click - Will teletransport your creature to the current cursor location. (you need oxygen at level 9)

**This is the Ludum Dare #24 version, it isn't finished, I'll keep working on it and post a link later in case you want to check it out. Thanks!

Really nice concept. This surely deserves some 5 stars in various categories.

I really enjoyed it and I think it has tons of potential.

btw, what's the third stat? I had most at high levels and that one remained at 0 and I was never able to figure out how to increase it.

Good job!

Hey, thank you! The third stat is size, it will make your creature bigger. You need to eat corpses to increase it. ;)

Interesting mechanic about movement and firing. A bit too slow for my taste though. I kept trying to increase my fire rate. I do find the sound effects and music were very nicely done.

I also could not figure out about the size stat until I read the comments :)

Man, that was fun. I had no idea what I was doing, and I think I died a lot but it was fun. Also, some of the sounds were really loud.

Really neat concept and well executed. I like the idea of having to wait for the next generation to use the benefits and it's cool to see my thingy slowly grow.

Coudn't immediately figure out what caused changes in generation or what I was supposed to do with seemingly dead dudes, but I like the controls, and graphics look nice and polished.

The controls were a bit unintuitive, but I like the game itself. The graphics style is great, it looks different/unusual (in a good way). Very unique and well-made game!

Visual aesthetic was simply pleasant and the game was interesting, maybe a bit slow tough.

Hey this is nice. Graphics I like (waves), I like all the different kinds of enemies. The evolving idea is clever. It could use some more explanation, but that's with a lot of games (like mine ;)

Wow, it's 3 hours until end of voting and boy am I glad I could experience this right now. I think this is one of the best games during this LD in terms of fun, and it's also very good in other categories. Great concept and overall polish. Loved it.
