love in the time of fishbowls by otaviogood

[raw]
made by otaviogood for LD23 (COMPO)
This is a game about listening to your fishies to help them find love. Make sure audio is working and turned on. It requires XNA, so I included the installer for the redist.

I just compiled a more compatible XNA version using the "reach" compiler option. Same exact game, but it should work on more computers. So use that one.

Overall that was good fun, I would say that some of the sounds are a bit too similar though.

Brilliant work. I loved the little story in between levels. The hand coming in gave me a good laugh, since it made no sense. The sounds and graphics are great, and it's really fun. Also, I absolutely LOVED it when the fish tank got low on water. It was dreadful and hilarious at the same time - they were all shaking and clearly knew they were about to die. Amazing work!

Nice, really enjoyed this. The story between levels was really fun and thought-provoking (the Matrix is everywhere Neo :). Liked the mechanic of the mating calls too.

great art and programming! some of the sounds are too similar, making it a bit too hard. The story is ok too. Good job!

Conceptually, comes across as funny at first, then you end up feeling sad for those poor fishies. I do wish that fish dragging was a little faster and that there might be a visual way for people to see 'pairs' - like maybe a speech bubble when they call? Otherwise, strangely compelling - cheers!

Great, one of the best I've rated so far! Nice casual game with a smart, organic progression system and an unexpected good story! This one got me thinking. Congratulations! :)

Clever! Some similar sounds, but all around pretty ingenious and fun; thanks!

I can't play it on my laptop, if you go into the project settings and switch to Reach mode, more people will be able to play.

Cute idea! I didn't notice it until the fourth or fifth level, but the water running down as a timer and hurdle worked really well. I also loved the small story segments that came after each level. Some of the sounds sounded too similar or didn't happen as often as they should have (Especially in the later levels, where one fish had the tenacity to make the same call five times in a row with the other fish silence.) but an excellent effort!

Great fun game! Definitely one of my favorites of the compo.

Some of the sounds were either identical or only off by a tiny bit. I like the idea of a speech bubble as an alternative for sound, each has a symbol or something.

The controls weren't intuitive. At first I kept click click click clicking, dragging the fish in little spurts, until I realized I could click and hold, and the fish would just follow.

I can't run it because my computer doesn't have a "HiDef" compatible video card. Sorry :'(

Very nice take on the classic matching game, and a perfect concept to go with the tiny world theme. The story in between is quite nice. I had fun. Made it through level 8 before it got overwhelming.

Finished the story, fun and original. I could almost se religious undertones in the story and mythbuilding among the fishes. The sounds may have been a little to similiar for us with no musical ear.

Simple, but fun - the definition of elegance. Nicely done.

Really fun game! As said by others, more sound variety would've been great. I thought that the realistic water didn't match the fishes, but it didn't bothered me when playing.
