Shifty the Keyboard Key by Drenghel
About me :
Hi, this is my first participation ever, and pretty must my first game ever, just keep it in mind :). (And I made it in less than 48h (about 18h), because of IRL stuff )
The graphics are bad, or inexistent, I know, I'm terrible at Gimp :D.
No audio for this one, I wanted to add a procedurally generated one but I finished at 3AM, so ...
About the game:
The game is about a key from a keyboard falling down a level, the further you fall the bigger your score gets !
Plus if you fall while adopting a bigger shape ( the Space/Shift shape ) you get a bigger score multiplier, but it's harder to pass the holes !
Level proceduraly generated, so each run, new holes !(took me most of the time :( )
Controls :
Left & Right Arrow Keys : Moving
Ctrl, Space, Shift : Change Shape ( Size on keyboard is roughly equals the one screen)
Known Bugs :
-You may get out of track if you change shape at certain moment ( EG: going through a hole )
- For some reason the camera is weirdly placed on the windows version
- UI needs work, some text is not visible
-Probably others !
Things I wanted to add :
- How many hole you went through without stopping
- Higher max speed and speed meter
- Change Shifty face to a grumpy one when you hit something
- Step the camera back, allowing to anticipate where to go and loose less speed
End note :
Anyway thanks for playing and rating ! I take all the feedback, of course I already know that I have a ton of training to do to get better too :)
Special thanks to the LD IRC chat, really nice guys, very helpful (Hi the31 ! )
PS : I wanted to provide a WebGl version, but the building fails, if it's permitted I'll try during next week
EDIT : Web version doesn't work on another PC for me, let me know if I'm the only one having this issue.
EDIT2 : Web works with Firefox ! Powered by itch.io, thanks Crowbeak !

On the game itself: Simple, but you gotta start somewhere. I didn't find it fun to play because the combination of having little time to see what was coming and the controls not being great meant that I hit every barrier. But your message at the end made me giggle.
Good luck with future gamedev endeavors. :D I hope you learned a lot this time around.
Nice simple little game, was fun!
About the camera, it's already planned, I'll fix the game later, I certain that if I do all the things planned in my list, it could actually be fun :D
Cya you guys next LD !
I like your take on the theme--cute to use shift as the character and shift between the different key shapes.
Other than that, I think I agree with the things you wanted to do. I also agree that the movement was pretty bad. Is it meant to take a bunch of taps of the key to move a little bit? Well, I'm sure you'll improve your gamedev velocity and be able to implement more ideas in future LDs. :)
Hi!
I agree I liked my base idea, it could be a lot better with few improvements, but yeah I needed more time last WE as I spent quite a bit on "How the hell do I do that" and not enough on "Well, I'll improve that, I still have 12h" ^^
See you next LD on IRC :)
Of course it's expandable with music, eventually level design etc. But we all know that time problem, and for your first ludum dare, great job :)
I'll start to upgrade this game to an actually enjoyable one :p
