made by Lucas Tiridath for LD23 (COMPO)
The story of one OS's attempt to escape from the tiny world of a laptop's C drive.

This is a 2D puzzle game for Windows (and maybe other platforms later).

Excuse the lack of many screenshots but it's hard to think of what to show without giving away clues about how to complete the game..

Hope you like it!

CONTROLS:
Movement: Arrow keys
Click: Space key
Move between text boxes: tab
Character entry: keyboard (as space cannot be used, use _ instead)

NOTE
Post compo version speeds up player movement.

Heh, "Internet Explorer 6", that gave me the chuckles. :) Is it ironic that I played this on Linux?

This was really funny. I especially liked the little secrets you can discover (annoying MS Word Paperclip). It took a while until I figured out why File Zipper returned "found no file" when I invoked it via the menu.

Worked ok in WINE, interesting, you move WAYYY too slow though, got frustrated trying to figure out what to do after zipping myself

Same here, I likes the references, but the jumping was really annoying. And I kept hitting ESC for some reflex reasons, which ends the game. Maybe asking if the user wants to leave is a good idea ;-)

***I'm posting this on all non-browser games I bring up in an attempt to encourage folks to make browser games next time around. Do not take it personally.***

When hundreds of people make non-browser games, that means that, to play all of the entries, I would need to download hundreds of games to my computer. I typically use OS X, so Windows-only entries are particularly inconvenient.

Please consider making a browser game next time.

Hey thanks for all the comments everyone :). Yeah sorry about windows only. Glad to hear it runs on WINE though. AGK (which I made it in) can technically be ported to Mac but I'd need a Mac to be able to do so and I don't... And I think asking players to compile the game first is asking a bit much!! Anyhow point taken and next time round, I will make sure there is a web based version. I've added a new post-compo version that speeds up the movement for those of you who were frustrated by that.

Any chance of a Mac version of this?

Sorry but probably not realistically. The language it's written in (AGK) can be ported to Mac but you need a Mac to do so which I don't have.

I'm sorry, I can't play your game because I don't have Windows (OSX).

Very interesting take on the theme!

I couldn't make it very far, because I didn't know how to connect to the internet... entering the server's ftp on the ftp server returned connection error :-(

Cool idea and story, but the character moves way too slow. I bet there were even more things you could have done to make this even more sweet, but yeah, time constraints.

I would try it if there was a Web or OSX version.

Pretty cool, but alas, too hard for me. I'm bad at puzzle games. :-)
