Spider simulation! Build a web to catch the insects, once they've been trapped, move in for the feast. Avoid birds. Browser only- some difficulty with sound and music in some browsers... Please play with Chrome. EDIT: The mouse cursor needs to be over a section of tree or web in order to build more web. You also need more than 0 webbing (acquired by eating bugs. When the icon in the bottom right is red, one of these conditions is not true.
Instructions are included, but I'll post here as well. WASD keys to move, mouse to aim and build webbing. Insects will become stuck to your traps and can then be eaten. Building a nest acts a respawn point. Thanks for checking it out!
Neat concept, felt very original. Had a little bit of trouble maneuvering across some of those branches, but overall I thought the controls were pretty good.
Awesome game! I think that's the first spider related game I've ever played, too. Graphics are top notch, and I like the nice touches like the grass at ground level. Well done sir!
I really enjoyed this, even though I detest spiders. I fired up Chrome to hear the sounds and the music was great. I'd love to see web upgrades, or spider growth so you can eventually feast on the bird.
The graphics, sound, and music are all top-notch for a 48-hour entry. The control is well-executed and the game is fun. I love coming back to my webbing to find new insects caught there. Gameplay is a tad bit on the shallow side (not much to do once you've built your nest except rack up a high score), but overall, I think this is an amazing entry.
@Sestren- Hey, thank you for pointing that out- I had entered the wrong link... I edited above- it's at http://dirigogames.com/ludumsource/ARACHNID.rar if you still have trouble. Thanks for the compliments!
I enjoyed the controls, even though I coudn't quite understand what made the web unavailable and for how long. I'd probably remove the web after the insect were eaten, because with the predefined path when it respawns end up catching the same bug over and over.
Congrats on the originality! ;)
Very good! Nice art, excellent music, quite innovative gameplay. Could use some more possibilites (maybe I missed something, I gave up with score about 25). About the only thing I disliked was the "clunkiness" of the controls while moving on the webbing or on thin stick, spider allways moved for a while into falling mode, it was bad to control... maybe moving spider after a fall more to the center of the stick would help?
Yeah, I can see that is confusing. The mouse cursor needs to be over a section of tree or web in order to build more web. You also need more than 0 webbing (acquired by eating bugs. When the icon in the bottom right is red, one of these conditions is not true.
This is a fantastic entry for 48 hours. crawling controls are a little clunky, moving at odd angles when the controls are 8 direction, but that's really all I can complain about. The difficulty could ramp up quicker; bird is very easy to avoid.
One of the most original ideas in this LD! I loved the concept and the execution. I think the graphics just need a little more polish, but overall is great.
It takes too much time to start falling and I became bird food because of this so many times :-D The music is great, but is a pity it doesn't loop, breaking the mood. I was unable to make webs as cool looking as the ones in your screenshots, but I had fun nonetheless.
Visually it looks good. The audio and music is good too.
I found myself wishing I could fire cooler looking webs. Granted, I can stay in one place and design an awesome spider web but it won't do me any good since I have to go to the bugs.
I also didn't think birds felt particularly threatening.
Music didn't work for me. (Firefox 11.0 64bit Linux).
Very cool game though. Did start to get a bit slow around 300 points.
Starting to fall seems a way too slow, I mostly died when trying to navigate a thin branch or web and the spider kept stopping to fall for a few pixels.
Great idea. I love the sandboxy feel to it, it's really awesome. I wish there were some levels, or some goal to accomplish - but it's very, very entertaining nonetheless. A pity that sound doesn't work in firefox.
I found the movement a bit frustrating (especially the falling mechanic - having no control when falling especially), but the gameplay was pretty unique, so I enjoyed it overall
I liked it. Collected 50 bugs before closing the game. I even tried to build a proper web, in hopes that I could trap a bird. No such luck. I wish there were more objectives.
I like the freedom and outdoorsiness (that's a word now) of your game, though.
Congrats on the originality! ;)
I spent a long time trying to catch the birds in my webs, but either I didn't make enough webbing, or you just can't do it. Oh well :(
Visually it looks good. The audio and music is good too.

Fun, clever, nice look and sound. Good game!
