Zilla the Destroyer by deps

[raw]
made by deps for LD23 (COMPO)
Zilla the Destroyer is angry. And when she's angry she wants to level a city with the ground. Burn the buildings. Incinerate the trees. Show those dirty apes that opposable thumbs are no match whatsoever to a 100 ton angry lizard on two legs and a bad temper.

WASD moves. UP/DOWN controls head. SPACE shoots firely ball of death and destruction.

I love this! If you do an expanded post-compo version it needs crowds of little panicky people to stomp on!

The screens look really good, too bad it can't run on linux :(
Since it's java can't you make a little build for us?
Btw don't worry I'm going to test it on my home pc later.

I like the vector graphics. The controls were not great though.

Managed to get it running in Linux. There are quite a few games here using lwjgl. It requires the binaries from http://www.lwjgl.org/download.php and run it with:
java -Djava.library.path=lwjgl/native/linux -jar zilla.jar
In future, I recommend packaging it with the whole native folder rather than just the windows binaries.

Loved the mood, the graphics, the audio was fitting. The gameplay left something lacking, I ran away and shot houses until I was tired of running.

I really like the vector graphics. I was just overwhelmed by choppers at the end, but it was still fun to splat them to pieces for as long as I could.

Great retro-style game! I'd feel more confortable with ASDW movement and mouse for looking around. Great game anyway. Thanks!

Very cool game, I liked where you went with the graphics. The controls were a bit hard to get used to, but not that bad once you got the hang of it.

It would be cool if we could destroy buildings/trees by stomping on them, in addition to blowing fire on them.

Also, when you die, your score is not reset.

I didn't realize that you could rotate the head at first. The controls in general could be improved. Also, some indication that you are damaging would be nice... health bar on destructibles or something. Walking into a building should damage it... it could damage you as well.
