Robot in the Garden by Gaeel

[raw]
made by Gaeel for LD23 (COMPO)
Made with Love2D

Graphics drawn with GIMP,
Music and sounds generated in FL Studio and Renoise

There's not much to this game, I got so caught up in tweaking the visuals and goofing off in front of the camera that I only had time to rush in two game modes.

During the making of this game, 4 friends were also making games for LD, all of them for the first time, and 3 of them at the same place as me (we Jammed in Montpellier in the sunny south of France), check out their games on our common page : http://xi.gd/ld23/

This game is freaking beautiful. Nice sound too.

I couldn't figure out what to do other than do laps though.

Nice use of a non-standard aspect ratio as well.

@mikelovesrobots3: You can find stuff as well! (shiny coins, all around the tiny world)
Other than that, I completely agree with your comment. Gaeel, your game is beautiful.

Beautiful looking game. I found a bunch of coins hoping something would happen, but didn't seem like it would. More gameplay would have been great, but still very good!

Yeaaaaah! I found this game via the LD23 thread on the LOVE forums and wanted to play it based on the passage-esque visuals. I love it! I love the playable title screen, the dual game modes (only LD racing game I have played so far), the sound design and ambient music and the game feel. Micro-jetpack jumps. White vine animation. Oh man, and the dynamic lighting. HYPER LEGIT. Haven't figured out the point of "collect" yet, about to go back. HYYYYPER LEGIT!

Hey guys, thanks for the comments!
I'm glad you enjoyed the game, I'm a little dissapointed I couldn't get more gameplay in, but it feels great to know people enjoyed it!

Very solid graphics. The movement around could be a bit quicker, but I love the jetpack.

The effects are also very nicely done. Shame actually that it is such a tiny game;)

Stunning visuals, nice soundtrack and I liked the mood aroung the game. More gameplay would be nice but this goes with the theme.

To be honest, I was hoping to add a few more gamemodes, such as some kind of puzzle mechanic with computers and maybe some kind of critter to play with, but I only started on actual gameplay about 12 hours before the contest end.

About the movement speed, I know it's a little slow, but that's intentional, I wanted there it to take a certain amount of time to travel through the world. It DOES feel a little sluggish though, I agree.

Beautiful graphics, nice sound design, and smooth controls. It's a shame there's not more to the gameplay. Could easily be one of my favorites if there was a bit more to do.

Is the purpose of the game just to pick up coins, or am I missing something?

Sweet and simple, but I wish there was more to do. I think you matched the theme well though, it does feel like quite a tiny world. Props for using a robot and a garden. Hehehe. ^_^

I like the idea of re-using the same tiny area for different games to emphasise the tiny world theme, shame you hadn't got more done :(
Graphics and atmosphere are pretty awesome

Doesn't feel like much more than a toy, but it's a very beautiful toy for sure! Also, high five for using Love too :D
