The background kinda made my eyes go funny, but still good stuff :)

You need to cleanup your input handling.

If I change direction by pressing the new direction before releasing the old direction, as soon as I keyup the old direction the player stops moving until I press a new key.

It's infuriating.

Also, I recommend putting some text in your submission description. Give it some oomph! Draw me in with a plot that has no connection to the gameplay!

I would try it, but I'm on an iMac.

controls are really bad, it's nearly impossible to change directions, often you just completely stop moving when you try. The graphics also makes it really hard to see what's going on.

A little hard to know what to do - I guess you just move around trying to dodge everything, while the world gets more crowded? Could be fun, but the guy was a little hard to control, and I wasn't sure that was the point. A bit of description would help a great deal. Good start, though.

Yes, as said the controls are really bad. I think you could best fix this by simply adjusting x and y by a certain amount in the events for the arrow keys. For example you could add 10 to x in the "right arrow key" event of your player object. This way the key events don't interfere. Hooray for Game Maker!

Liked the alien-like sound effects. The laser background was annoying. The graphics looked like placeholders. The controls were very buggy. You could die instantly by a monster spawning on you. Collisions were bad.
