The Last Square by caribou

[raw]
made by caribou for LD23 (JAM)
The Last Square is a multiplayer online game.

Note : If you are not in Europe you should expect lags, lots of them, i made a lagfree version but note that it's a post submission version so try the lagging version as well :)
LAGFREE server > http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8211966/prog/s2_LD23LF.swf

Rules :
You move the mouse over the squares to conquer them.
At the bottom of the window is the energy bar.

The red bar represents the energy max, the more dots you get the bigger is your energy max. If the bar goes over the 3 black bars you unlock 1, 2 and 3 towers.

To put a tower you need a 3x3 square and click on the center.

I'll try to host a server for the time of voting at the Web link. But you can also host a server yourself.

Line 338 > LD23.hx : Change the server ip
Line 386 > server.py : Change the server port

Note : I didn't work on lag at all, so it might feel sluggish for you (especially if you are not in Europe), i'll work on that after the votings. Also some of you have pointed that instructions are not visible enough so be sure to read the rules. It's also a part of things i won't allow me to change before the end of votings but the list at the right is actually a ranking not just a list of participants.

Really fun game. Great idea and great mechanic.

It's awesome that you were able to complete a multiplayer game in such a short amount of time. I hope you polish it up and finish it off.

One of my favourite Jam entries! Nice job!

Unable to test it due to a "socket security error" in LD23.hx line 637

I tried to play in Firefox and Chrome but either way I ended up getting this error: LD23.hx:637:socket security error . =(

Sorry for those who couldn't connect that was actually a connection issue, that should work now.

I actually had an IP reset which put me offline, i'm not sure the server can handle reconnection but still the ip is hardcoded so it couldn't have worked anyway. It should be fixed by now.

WHOAH it's MMO-y. Supre impressed with that, but I always felt like I had no idea what I was doing.
