Winzig by Hydlide

What is this game?

It's a faux 8-bit RPG like you would have seen on the NES or older consoles! Basically, I just wanted to make a game for Ludum Dare, having never done so. Graphics, music and sound are all made by myself in a period of 48 hours. There isn't a whole lot of variety and I didn't really have time to make any battle animations or enemies that did things other than attack, but hopefully the game is a little funny to at least one person and a good waste of 15 minutes or so.

THE ENDING!!!

Yeah, I know. I didn't have time to do more and the story actually starts getting good here. I might pick the game up again and release WINZIG DX SUPER AWESOME EDITION or something with a complete story, more variety, etc. I left out the fact that you get Eliza in your party and you actually get to a town and meet people instead of just traversing the inside of Jack's cubicle. There's always tomorrow, eh?

CREDITS

Thanks to Dragon Quest for inspiration and RMVXACE for the engine because without it lol what is programming? Next time I hope to make something that's all from scratch though, engine and all.

EXTRA TIPS!

You can full screen by pressing alt + enter
You can run by holding shift
If you "Guard" you will regain HP for free
You can save anywhere, but the save points are there to regain HP/MP + inspire you to save

JUDGES!

Made using an engine (RMVX) but everything else is mine. If that bends the rules somehow, please make this a jam entry!

This game is quite fun. I also write boring database code, and want to have an adventure like this. Do you have any pie you could send me?

Quite lengthy (being compared to many other LD#23 projects), and humorous. It's even with a fitting music!

You forgot a parenthesis in the printfs.

Empress: "Now venture through the forest of Ymir and do not perish!" - I remembered the good old Terminal Velocity. Check out the Ymir theme:

Art is great, the whole feel of the game is awesome. How come this hasn't got more comments!? Really good work for a 48 hs. game!

Thanks for the comments, I didn't even realize there were any. It gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling inside knowing people played my quick little RPG.
