Great game. Saw the alpha stages of this up till you added the enemies. They sure put it all together nicely :) fun experience!

I donno, I sorta liked it better when it was just a maze. Like how you handled the mechanics but there's a part of me says that it would be better without the gun/enemies..

I didn't want to make a puzzle game or a platformer (since I just spent 3 years working on one..............) and a maze by itself is kinda boring, so here it is. I'm gonna expand it more in the next few weeks.

I enjoyed watching this get created!
The use of memory and prediction really brought interest to the maze, and I was motivated to search around for all of the coins. Enemies (especially the wide ones with the salvo of death) were fun to battle, and I liked those few times when bullets came out of another layer at a different size!

Great game, steeling myself to take a crack at the hard mode.

:O :O This is *awesome*. I just died at the end of my first playthrough attempt... I'm amused that when I was in the early going, I went, wow, this game is not very challenging at all and shots don't hurt you much, and so I foolishly wasn't trying to conserve my health... then when I hit the difficult part I was like nooo what have I done. Will probably post some thoughts once I've beaten it...

I love the concept! The controls were fine for the maze part but a little fiddly for the shooting part. It would have been a lot nicer to be able to shoot in any direction, not just the one you're facing. I look forward to the updated version!

Btw. check out Soul Searchin by MaximSchoemaker if you already havn't. You both use the "same" camera zooming/shrinking, but a bit differently.

I greatly enjoyed this game, particularly the battery-enemies and the boss. The boss's eyes kept him from feeling unfair, and the slow wind-up, screen shake, and sounds made for a menacing face-shoot experience. The zoom at the end is altogether lovely. If the victory screen gave me the good job and then endlessly zoomed me through it, I would be in love.

This game is great, I remember seeing an early version when there were no enemies and though it was good, but it's even better now. I also really liked the boss! Great job! Also, nice timeline code :P

GREAT game!

Nice variety of enemy battles, and the zooming thing really makes the game! I love the sense of the world you get playing this, which most games don't have--most games feel like a series of levels or a room. That was what really stood out for me.

I got stuck for the second time tho and got killed wandering around (I'd been on two hits left for like half an hour.) That's one thing: After playing it for an hour, i definitely didn't feel like doing it all again to try & figure out where I had gone wrong on the way to the finish.

I enjoyed the menu intro transition into gameplay a lot. Really sets everything up perfectly the moment you cross that first threshold into the official game area and the music kicks off. I've loved that moment everytime I've played. Really fun concept and a very hard game. I've never made it very far I'm afraid, but it is just a cool game to hang out in and move around watching everything pulsing in the levels below. Very sweet game.

I liked that. That was a really creative way to arrange the rooms and it fits the theme nicely. The fighting was a bit repetitive, and mostly involved tapping the controls until you got to a spot where you could hit the enemies from their blind spots, but it was quite entertaining nonetheless.

Definitely top of the innovation rankings of the games I've played so far. Just a shame that on my 1024x600 netbook it became unplayable fast due to the bottom of the maze not showing on the screen.

I really dig this, it is brilliant! How you structured the maze across the different levels of scale I have no idea, really clever stuff. Lovely smooth controls, good colour palette and sounds and a great theme-linked menu completes the experience. I don't really see how this could be improved on, except with more of the same, congratulations!

Played this a couple weeks ago, some notes from my playthrough--

- I really liked the design of this. Trying to identify and remember goals without any assistance from the game (since you can't see the outer shells) was a cool and unique level to gameplay. I liked that this was introduced gradually, and that one of the first goals you see, you think-- oh, I'll just duck down a level or two and come back up, but in fact that first-goal-you-see is one of the last places you visit in the game.

- One of the cooler moments was escaping from a smaller area into a larger one and having the tiny sperm following me out, still small-scale. If you explore this more later that might be a fun thing to do more with.

- It would be interesting to see a speedrun mode for this where you got a time at the end, or a hard mode with limited life. Basically this the game has enough structure it looks like it could work with leaderboards of one type or another.

- This is one of a couple games I've played recently that did interesting things with presenting challenge just by limiting your sight, in that respect it sort of made me think of Where Is My Heart.

- I did like that in the early bits I had incredible amounts of health, toward the end health became incredibly vital. This seems to help with replays because even the early, easy parts become challenging because you have to actually look at things in terms of "I need to preserve a store of life in this part for the endgame".

Anyway this and Super Mario Summary were probably my favorite games of the whole LD, well done :O

Well deserved first place! Game mechanics resonate with main theme so well.

14. May 2012 · 08:04 UTC
That's a crappy thing to say.

The game won because it won. That's how the voting system works. The game has solid audio, an amazing use of theme, it's fun as crap, and the visuals work best for the kind of zooming mechanic that's been implemented.

It's a very very solid game in every category, so it deserves high marks in overall.

Anyone who can tell me 5 stars on graphics compared to the two other top entries is dreaming. Anyone who can tell me 5 stars on innovation compared to 3 other games that were better based on this same concept is dreaming. Anyone who tells me generated, placeholder SFXR sound effects and randomly generated music are 5 star is dreaming. Clearly Tyler Glail is a celebrity and was given a bias based on his name. Positivism is the only thing that justifies a middle-of-the-road entry like this getting 1st place vs so many -excellent entries- that, when broken apart with a little bit of critical thinking are superior to this. Thanks for the entry, but this is not the winner. Your winner is in a different castle.
