Perspectives by Simon

[raw]
made by Simon for LD23 (COMPO)
Hi, I'm Simon and this is my first LD.

I decided to try and make a game about the different perspectives that one can have about a certain place.
The player is led to discover the world thanks to friendly NPCs and the higher she gets the greater she can see the world as it is.
In spite of the bugs and the lack of polish I hope that you'll still enjoy the game !

Controls: Arrows to move and jump.
Tools: Komodo Edit (IDE), my own javascript engine (http://www.assembla.com/code/fm-javascript-framework/subversion/nodes), Inkscape, GraphicsGale, and Otomata (http://www.earslap.com/projectslab/otomata).

EDIT: I forgot to say that I have tested the game only on Firefox and Chrome although my framework is supposed to work on Opera and Safari too.

the concept looks pretty gnarly, but I keep getting stuck in the walls...Is that supposed to happen or am I just not that good...

I fell into the floor just before the first NPC and was unable to escape...I agree, though, cool concept!

Sorry for the collision bugs, it happens in the corners because I'm only considering one side colliding at a time !

I keep getting stuck in the walls as well. Graphics and mood, however are pretty good!

Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it. It's rather funny cause I'm a programmer and game designer. I've never thought I could actually produce a game with "good" graphics :)

I dig the minimalist soundtrack. Also kept getting stuck in the rightmost wall, couldn't get too far.
Good work for the first entry.

Yeah I ran head first into a wall and disappeared before the NPC's could! Fun though if you look past the bugs.

I like your idea about how meeting more people can help your character achieve more, but the execution was rather lackluster. I liked the short music track though, very calming.

Getting stuck in the walls quite often and had to restart.
Character graphics look great!

Is the guy flying by shooting stuff from his shoulders? :)

Than you all for playing and commenting. A friend told me about the sweating thing, I added this at the last minute but I should have not ! :)

a lot better than when I first played it...I'm sad that all the npcs evaporated...

I was having the collision issues as well, but assumed the blue was water (hence the 'water jump'?). Overall there isn't much depth, but enjoyable nonetheless. Loved the disappearing NPCS.

The end is quite rough but I liked the sound design! (the game takes a looong time to load!)

Interesting idea. I like the background graphics. Couldn't make some of the jumps.

Thanks guys for playing and everything.
@R茅mi, how long did it take to load exactly ? I've never noticed that and the assets are really lightweight! (I'm loading it in like 10 seconds)

I do like the sounds and the general concept.

criticism:
- collision detecting is buggy when jumping from great heights (was inside floor)
- textures for humans are ok, but you should use other colors
- the level texture(s) are very simplicistic
- it's way to short
- the idea itself is innovative, your game isn't

Le concept est interessant mais je trouve qu'il manque quelque chose 脿 d茅couvrir lors de l'apparition progressive du monde.
