Legends of Babanok by Longarmx

[raw]
made by Longarmx for LD23 (COMPO)
I made this game in 13 hours, starting from nothing. All of the graphics were made by me, the levels were made by me, and all of the code was made by me.

The object of the game is to gather as many coins as you can. You can pass a level by gathering all the coins in the level. When the time runs out, the game ends and you are given a level number, a score, and a total number of coins.

The hearts have not been implemented yet. The energy is filled when you eat a cupcake. While there is at least 1 energy left, you can move faster.

The controls:
W - up
A - left
S - down
D - right

Hopefully you guys will appreciate this game as I made it in 13 hours with only 7 months of java experience. This is my first Ludum Dare and I really enjoyed it!

Enjoy the game!

Good first effort. Definitely keep messing with it though, get collision detection figured out and suchlike.

Yeah, I think I sort of hacked it with picking up coins and the cupcakes. I will get collision detection sorted out though and add sounds.

Yeah, the idea's alright, though an indication of 'speed' might be nice as well, or some idea of what will slow you down how. It seemed like the river was slowing me down, but that could have just been the fact that I was tired when I hit it. xD

Sorry, I forgot to post that. The river does slow you down.
The players initial speed is 300px per second.
When you eat a cupcake, the speed is increased to 480px per second.
When you are in the water, you the speed is decreased to 180px per second.
The input is also buggy. You have to hit another key or change directions in order for the new speed to be calculated.
Thank you for playing this though. I will definetly expand on this idea.

The screen is too big :) Take account 1024x768 as best bet and don't hear arrogant people screaming "it's not standar anymore".

Yeah, someone else has told me about that. I am working on resizing everything to make it smaller. :)

A good start! Welcome to LD. What everyone already said is totally right: could use a lot more than it has. But overall works decently.

Thank you for commenting. Remember to give me an honest rating because I would like to see what areas I did good in and what areas I did bad in.

There's a lot of potential in this - I think you should work more with it, finish it up / polish it.
