Cirque du Seul by iansnyder

[raw]
made by iansnyder for LD22 (COMPO)
Madame Margeurite and Her Magnificent Menagerie, a roving circus troupe, have set out on an Arctic voyage from Paris to the World Fair in the New World. En route, in her haste, the ship charges headlong into an iceberg.

None survive the plunge into the icy Arctic, or so the newspapers say...

Completed in about 15 hours. For an updated version with a few minor tweaks (preloader, some more sounds) follow this link:

Love the art sytle, random maps and idea, but just wish there was a bit more gameplay in it.

The art is amazing, reminds me of echo the dolphin for some reason. Needs some more game play elements to engage the player.

The music and art was nice but I didn't understand the point of the game. I didn't find the game to be very fun.

With some more thought, this could be a very good artsy game. Now it's mostly just artsy, unless there's some hidden meaning which I didn't get. It would be great if there were some gameplay, or just more content. The art/sound part is great though.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone :) I was definitely planning on more gameplay with some food and energy mechanics for swimming between the islands, and choices to make for food, but with a young baby I was lucky to get the time I did to work on this :P I worked on it for about 15 hours, which was great, but just not enough time to really flesh it out.

Thanks again for the feedback, this is just the beginning for me in Ludum Dare >:D

Really nice art, and the story is kinda fun. Not a whole ton of actual "game" here, per se, but it was still entertaining.

Did you really make that whalesong yourself?

Thank you for the pretty pictures.

the random cutscenes were a bit underwhelming after the magnificent setup.

The Mood and setting is great, and I hope you keep it that way for any eventual gameplay improvements :P

So... strange. I'd like to see where this could go.

The art is stunning for a 15 hour work =P!
Right now, I'm in love with this Polar Bear (screw you Cats & Kittens & Fury Things that Meow and purr!)! Does he have a name?
Aside from the visual appealing experience I felt the lack of a more active gameplay experience, as it was mentioned before. Perhaps a HUD and a counter for the time spent in the swimming between icebergs would be enough! But as you say, time won't stretch and there are other priorities!
Congratulations.

Lovely!

Flocks of seagulls freak me out as well :)
