Feeling Alone by idanmiller

[raw]
made by idanmiller for LD22 (COMPO)
You are alone.
You have bad feelings.
Free yourself from them!

Shoot all the bad feelings on the screen and get to the exit before the time runs out!

Use arrow keys to move (left/right to rotate, up for engines) and spacebar to shoot!

This is my first Ludum Dare entry :)

I used Adobe Flash CS5 for art,
AS3 and Starling for programming,
sfxr and Guitar Pro 4 for sound effects and music.

To run in windows, just double click the html file.

Please reply and tell me what you think!

The controls was pretty awkward. Exept that it was pretty fun.

Nice game, although it is extremely hard, I am always too slow :)

I've beaten it, and the difficulty seems right. I'll be honest, though, the controls and music made it a bit tedious for me.

I love the idea :) the graphics are simple but they work very well. I really enjoyed the controls, but the thing that made the game hard for me was insufficient time...

Clever abstract theme interpretation, but really tight time limits and controls felt somewhat dead. I expected some inertia and a bit more room to maneuver so you could drift round corners shooting as you go...

Awkward but fun. I think it's the most memorable game I've played so far. The concept is endearing. :)

Thanks everyone :)

I think the problem with the awkward controls is the fact that you can't change direction while thrusting. This was important to the gameplay, I wanted the turning to take time so you'll carefully plan your path for minimum turns in order to shoot.
However, it is very unintuitive... I suppose I should have either gone with an astroids-like movement after all, or added some kind of visuals that would explain why the ship is acting that way.

What felt awkward, for me, was that turning while flying did not change your inertia. You continue in your old heading until you stop and restart moving.

really, really hard...! I also didn't understand that the feelings to be "shot" could be outside the track. So it took me quite a while to figure out how to pass the tutorial level!

Good literal interpretation of the theme. Very lonely feeling indeed, especially with the music.

The game was too hard and the controls didn't help a bit: I just wanted to rotate *while* moving forward but instead I have to stop any time I want to turn, which means less time. The theme is also unfortunately missing from the game.

I think the main problem is you can't turn while moving (except for shooting). Because of that, it's very hard to win within the time limit.
But I love the idea and the realisation!
