A world with life sucked out of it, a world without colour.\r<br\/>The sound is abstract but\r<br\/>\r<br\/>I think this game would be more interesting if the mechanics\r<br\/>were in harmony with the concept. \r<br\/>\r<br\/>The mechanic - you walk in a direction until the game ends.\r<br\/>\r<br\/>The game mechanics fall flat for me. This isn't really a game. \r<br\/>\r<br\/>I saw screen shots of this and was really looking forward to 'playing' this game. \r<br\/>\r<br\/>I think you can create a game with this kind of high concept, brilliant art and sound design, but also compelling gameplay. \r<br\/>\r<br\/>I really enjoyed this, and I think it might seem arbitrary to pick on this otherwise brilliant entry because of its lack of gameplay. Because in the end why does it matter? It is what it is.\r<br\/>\r<br\/>But, I could have put a paper weight on the right arrow and 'watched' the game as a short film, and it would have been more enjoyable\r<br\/>(Actually this is easy to achieve, just hit the right arrow and then click on another window and the character will keep walking).\r<br\/>\r<br\/>As soon as you have the ability to control the character and then do nothing with it, that is a waste of the mediums strengths."}],"images":["ld22\/5433-e37520d8b91cc34bc48c15405cb83471.jpg","ld22\/5433-df5c8bcfa2f292f3b2d2521d54750a07.jpg"],"links":[{"url":"http:\/\/www.thegreystudios.com\/ld22\/TheInventionOfColourFixed.jar","text":"Windows & OS\/X"},{"url":"http:\/\/thegreystudios.com\/theinventionofcolour\/","text":"Web (Applet)"},{"url":"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=D51UNCorb4s","text":"Video"},{"url":"http:\/\/www.thegreystudios.com\/ld22\/TheInventionOfColourChristmas.jar","text":"Christmas Version"},{"url":"http:\/\/www.thegreystudios.com\/ld22\/TheInventionOfColour-src.zip","text":"Source"}],"metadata":{"g_key":"32153","g_author":"5433","g_event":"LD22","g_eventkey":"8","g_subevent":"COMPO","g_urlkey":"32183","g_title":"The Invention of Colour","g_status":"UCHK1","g_place":"138","g_commentcount":"27","g_site2_node_id":"0","g_hide":"N","g_has_icon":"Y","g_rqueue":"0","g_random":"0"},"nds":[],"node":null,"orig_images":["http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/compo2\/\/87574\/5433-shot0.png-eq-900-500.jpg","http:\/\/ludumdare.com\/compo\/wp-content\/compo2\/\/87574\/5433-shot1.png-eq-900-500.jpg"],"text":"\"The Invention of Colour\" \r\n\r\nThis is interactive storytelling. It doesn't play like a traditional game. You'll follow \"Alrion\" through his quest to find \"shimmers\" as he doesn't know what colours are. I aimed to create something that is engrossing and takes the player on a journey. Just enjoy not having to do much and expect a few minutes of atmospheric storytelling. It's intentional low level involvement.\r\n\r\nThere are two ways (literally) to finish the game. Just keep going.\r\n\r\nHope you enjoy this little trippy & eerie plunge into the heart of a bizarre world.\r\n\r\nPLEASE NOTE: This experience requires AUDIO (best enjoyed with headphones), otherwise the game will not make sense. Controls are also explained in-game: just use the arrow keys to walk around. This should run on Windows, Mac & Linux. The only thing you need is a JAVA runtime.\r\n\r\nOh and yes. There is a kitten in the game.\r\n\r\nMade with libgdx, reaper & gimp.\r\n\r\nUPDATE: Added a complete walk-through video of the game. If for whatever reason you can't play the game this should give you a fairly accurate impression of the experience!<\/p>","title":"The Invention of Colour"}
