Is there an end to it?  If the Jumper is supposed to be waiting for his drive to warm up or something, a timer would be nice.  I can understand not wanting to put in a health meter, but some kind of visual response when you are hit would add a lot I feel (explosion\/screen flashes\/ship flashes\/whatever). Gun sounds got repetitive and annoying fast but I liked the way guns can stack up on your ship. As others have said an indicator of your life would also have been handy.
