Escape from the Sea of HeartBreak by GigaClon

[raw]
made by GigaClon for LD21 (JAM)
I decided to polish this a little bit and enter it into the LD jam (which has longer timeframe and less strict rules) Arrows to move, Z to jump, X to pull. Push same-colored blocks together to make more blocks. Enter to restart.

Holy lag and broken physics Batman! Haha. Good idea, but the implimentation is quite buggy/broken.

An interesting and fun concept, not as easy as it looks. The physics are very buggy though, distracting from gameplay.

It has a lot of potential, but not everything works as it should, and often blocks slide around unexpectadly

An interesting idea, but it was too easy to get stuck, and the mechanics (push/pull) didn't seem to work all the time. Would have benefited from some description about how to play and what controls to use.

Interesting concept, but very buggy. Couldn't ever get out of the pit. :)

Interesting idea (and very melodramatic title!) - I found I got stuck quite quickly and never really got a handle on what "pull" was going to do at any given time.

The game was good, the mechanic was good, but the implementation was buggy, verging on completely broken. The blocks did not move in way that were expected. Making the blocks more grid-based, instead of a superfluous physical engine would help alleviate this issue.

well i only had 48 hours and ran into snags with the other approach.

Unplayable due to bugs in physics and controls. Try to polish it a bit further and I would be a lot more enjoyable.

I must say this game has very strange mechanics and controls. I couldn't quite understand the specifics of how exactly the blocks will explode into more blocks. It seems like I need to get two of the same color near each other, but sometimes that wouldn't do anything, and when two were already next to each other, like in the screenshot, I didn't quite understand why they wouldn't blow up automatically, or if there was a way for me to blow them up. Also, I never quite grasped the whole function of the X key. It seems like it allows me to pull blocks, but which block exactly seemed to be a bit of a mystery to me. The game screen has all sorts of space for instructions, so I think you could have spent a bit of time making some.

I was eventually able to beat the game. I wish it had at least a text congratulating me or something.

I do like that you came up with mechanics that are at least somewhat original, but you should have spent a bit more time making sure that the player understands those mechanics.
