The Last of the Nyoms (Prologue) by quickfingers

[raw]
made by quickfingers for LD20 (COMPO)
The Nyoms are a cute species of creature that thrive on lemons. However supplies are low and Nyoms are doomed to extinction from starvation. But you can help! You are a rare breed of Nyom who has grown feet and hands. With these you can explore the land and try and find the fabled Lemon Cart!

This is my first LD and I had a blast. I managed to do everything I had planned with a few hours spare so was super happy.

Tools Used :
Unity Pro 3.3
Photoshop
Modo
Cubase 4 (Music composed in 20 minutes)
Sound Forge (Sound FX all done with the vocal chords I was born with :] )

Free Libs :
iTween
GUISpriteUI

I did record a time lapse but I'm having difficulties with formats and frame rates etc. Hopefully will get that sorted out soon.

Nice!
The sound and music kind of remind me of lemmings/worms. :)

Pretty pretty, and something Spore-ish about it.

Makes me want to play Bionic Commando, too.

As always, ace execution and you do live up to your name. While checkpoints may have eased the burden a tiny bit, the overall challenge level was good for an advanced player.

Thanks for this, and congrats on clearing your first LD48!

Are you kidding me? This is just lovely. Only one suggestion ... checkpoints. Other than that, add some more levels and ship it!

Too bad there's no way to run Unity games under Linux :( This one looks pretty cool ! (And your timelapse was great, btw...)

I FOUND A SECRET AREA! I love secrets. Good work!
Fun little game, although the physics are extra floaty and the movement is pretty slow.

As has been said by others so far, great job!

The graphics and audio fall together in a beautiful symbiosis and the gameplay in general was functional and polished. I missed an option to release the rope with the jump key instead of the mouse button, but that's a minor detail in the larger scale.

I guess the real problem is the theme itself. I guess it could be argued that the Nyoms (love the name) are quite helpless and would be in danger if they went out (even in numbers), and you did throw the punchline when activating the rope, but they both seemed very strained :-/

Still, that's "just" the theme - the remainder of the game was excellent, top notch.

this is great! But I somehow miss the ability to rescue myself out of water, because that really is a 4-6 second period of dying.

The graphics and audio are great! The gameplay was ok. I found the controls on the grapling thing too difficult.
Overall it was really cool . . . but not so thematic.

The game is quite unforgiving. You should implement checkpoints. I really liked the sound track though. =]

Nice implementation of everything but the gameplay is a bit on the boring side.

Very solid presentation.
The only real problem I had was with the swinging mechanic. I always died on the 6 lemons under the cliff to the right.

Great use of the unity physics engine. For 48 hours you put a lot of polish in this game.

I liked the character animation. Nice job on the audio as well. I found the movement a bit unresponsive, and I always struggle with ninja rope games, so I didn't make it very far.
