Tessellate by sharrackor

[raw]
made by sharrackor for LD35 (JAM)
A fast-paced adrenaline-pumping arcade shooter, Tessellate dares to take the Ludum Dare 35's theme - 'Shapeshift' - literally.

Play as a small but strong triangular CPU and make your way through an 80's tech themed shoot-em-up as you face an endless stream of opponent shapes. What makes your little triangle so special? Why, the power to grow more shapes on yourself as you crush your foes, of course! Mow down hordes of enemies, avoid bombs, and gain power as you assimilate your enemies and go from a mere triangle to a thousand-sided shooting machine!

Controls:

- Use WASD for movement up, down left and right the screen
- Move mouse pointer to adjust the rotation for your player
- To shoot bullets from all your triangles, use the left mouse button
- To make all your rectangles emit damage, press the right mouse button
- Pause with 'Escape' key

It is a fun game, however it felt a bit short.

The aesthetics of this game are amazing. The animation when the triangle first get dropped in the room literally dropped my jaw... so cool!

Nice game. Really fun and satisfying. I love that as your ship gets bigger, it gets really hard to avoid things and you need to rotate properly to dodge. One thing I would like is some kind of warning when a circle is about to fly across the screen, got screwed over by them a couple of times!

Those appearance animations are amazing! I also like how damage to your shapes is shown on the sprites rather than as health bars! I really liked how you grew as you destroyed the other shapes. Though if you happen to be unlucky enough to be on the edge of the screen as a bombs comes in, it can do a lot of damage. Perhaps making the bombs a bit slower or a warning before they enter?

Great arcade-style game--lots of fun to play. The music was really good, but almost felt more suited to an adventure game. XD
Plays really well (though you can fly over the top of the UI elements) and is pretty damn addictive. Great job!

Fun and addictive game! It's getting quite challenging further into the game. The menu is very well polished! Keep up the good work!

This was a cool entry, the difficulty felt really natural since it got harder to avoid things as you got bigger, but still had plenty of opportunity to recover if you lost some pieces. However, I noticed that you could just spam right-click to make the squares pulse without any delay in between. This felt like a bit of an oversight.

The music was good, but I found that the sound effects had a tendency to drown it out (although that's partially because I was spamming pulses).

Nice game, well made. I think with some more work it could turn out even better!

Really quite addictive, really quite impressive what you were able to pull of in such a short time (and in game maker!). Would like to see even more shapes to increase the replay-ability.

Good arcade game! Well implemented graphics and sound. And quite challenging! "fast-paced adrenaline-pumping" is a good description ;)
