ZEUS VS MOLES by Fouralex
I apologize if I made language mistakes, I'm not English native speaker, it's hard for me to know if my sentences are corrects.
This is my first submission for Ludum Dare 38, a game made by myself in 48 hours with the theme : A Small World.
:zap:On the Zeus’s planet, a tragic event takes place: a moles invasion. Help this god to hunt all these pests.:zap:
How to play:
- Point and click to move, touch the moles to hurt them
- Moles become darker when they are hurt (do not be hard with their dead body)
- That's all
Using:
Unity3D to program (C#)
GarageBand to make the soundtrack and Bfxr to make the sound effects
Magicavoxel to create the characters and the environment
Gimp2 to make the 2D elements

This is exactly what is expected on Ludum Dare.
This game gonna win, I tell you !
When you mix fast pace hack&slash with slick mouse control and a spice of cuteness, you get this game.
(You can see me playing this game for the first time on the vod https://youtu.be/_Upt3PIzndo?t=25m40s )
I hope you will come back to judge!
I love the voxel graphics and the overall feel of the game. I love the feel of the controls and the screen shake too (I've got to start doing that myself more often).
As a sound guy, I've got to say the fact that the loop didn't quite loop properly drove me a bit crazy (definitely a quick fix once you're ready to do revisions).
Great work overall. Super-fun!
Graphically this is the best game I've played so far. The voxel-style models work well and the effects are pretty. Clouds got in the way slightly sometimes of the action. The UI was very basic but adequate for the game's purposes. The music was pretty good at capturing the arcade feel of the game, although the menu loop was a bit short and jarring. Sound effects were clear and sounded good.
I thought the controls were good although it was weird the camera kept spinning around when moving, presumably to stay pointed "up". This was disorientating sometimes. Pathing wise, I felt like obstacles needed a bit more tolerance so Zeus can go through them at the edges slightly. With the curved surface it's hard enough to aim as is. I'd also have preferred more visual feedback on progress than just the UI bar at the top, because moving my eyes up there takes time. Maybe have the earth lose its green or something.
I found the game difficult. Even for a quick game it would be nice if it hooked me in for more than a couple of seconds, though the simplicity of the mechanics might excuse that slightly. I wonder if even just de-spawning dead moles after a time would make a significant difference. But this is more of a personal preference.
Cool game, hope it does well! :)
The gameplay is very simple and easy to learn nevertheless it still makes fun
But you should really resize the game in your itch.io settings
Overall, a nice game, especially for 48 hours
Nice job anyway:)
Everything I said before is still true. I think you made a real funny game for mobiles. I hope to see it in the PlayStore or Appstore :)
See you buddy ! And great work again !
But I like its simple and addictive gameplay.
89 is my max score).
@greeny7 What version have you tried? If it was the web version, I had an issue with screen scaling. Also I noticed that if you move the mouse (just a little bit) during the instant that you click in the web version, the game will not recognize the mouse button input, and that is because Zeus is not move. It's for these reasons that I recommand you to prefer install the downloadable version of the game.
Honestly a really good game. It feels complete and makes a lot of fun to play. On my first play, I thought I have to hit the moles until they disappear which was just cruel ^^
Thanks!
It's pretty hard though. Is it possible to win anyway or it is just high score game?
Just, absolutely no words. It's perfect in every aspect! Except the controls, I would have preferred a keyboard controlled game but meh, that's because I'm terrible with mouse haha.
Music is cool, sound and screen shaking are giving a cool response :)
Made it to 41, is it okay? :D
The only thing strange to me was understanding how the deth meter works. Only after reading I get that it depends on the number of moles. I thought that touching them was killing me and tried slide near them :D
That said I did have fun and I got better as I played more rounds. I was stuck at 5 for awhile but the last best score I got was 9 which I couldn't beat. This may also have to do with playing the web version.
And its actually harder to play at browser (as expected from WebGL exporters).
Suggestions:
+ When a user clicks/taps the sky, until a certain tolerance limit range, move to horizon.
+ Make the camera Lerp faster or slower, not this speed. It is too slow to wait for it to finish, and too fast to tap while it is moving.
My best score

It is really great that for your first submission you had the time to have very nice graphisms, fun gameplay, and even pretty good sounds. The way Zeus jumps and attacks is really satisfying.
Congratulations keep up the good work.
A great comp submission!
