My Best Friend

A short platformer with your best friend. Take care of him please.

Also

This was my first compo ever. I hope you like it.

Feel free to comment and give any kind of feedback, I'll really appreciate it!

Changelog

Thanks to the feedback I managed to solve some problems in a post compo upload! Thank you!

  • The collisions (and Henry!) should be working without problems now (curse you, physics)
  • Added a Restart Layout button in every level.
  • Randomly dying in the spikes level should be fixed.
  • Bugs that no one reported were also fixed!

Great first attempt at a jam game! It's a nice take on the theme and the commentary prompts are a really nice touch! Well done!

Little thing: In future, add a button to restart a level if possible!

Amazing commentary makes me sad that it is as short as it is.
It also shows that you don't need great graphics to tell a story.
Overall great entry!

A very simple and funny little game. The best part of the game was the funny/weird story. Well done.

Nooo how could you make me kill Henry!!

This is so sad, 10/10 would kill Henry again. Great first entry man, the movement was slightly buggy though :)

Wtf! u r a fucking genius!
I liked most the way u constructed the characters and created their relationship.
I think a funeral would be appropriated at the end!

Nice little platformer. Big "Thomas was alone" vibe that I really like :)
Collision with henry was a bit buggy and i couldn't move henry at the level with the spikes maybe I missed something...

Funny but horrible little game...

Collisions could be improve, there's a lot of tutorials about it, and it's pretty easy with squares. Maybe for a post-jam version?

Nice, though I got stucked when Henry appeared just in the place I were in the stage with spikes.

@sapphiris It's fixed now! Thank you for telling me! @tornoz Henry was stuck at the spikes, as long as you can reach the other side using him as a platform, should be fine!

@nolic0321 @dunin @drikdrok @arthur-baars Movement and collisions should be smooth and working fine now, thank you for the feedback!

This was a funny entry, nice use of theme. I thought the game was bugged for a second in the level with spikes, but falling to spikes myself seems to have triggered being able to move Henry again.

Original, entertaining and fun. Can't really ask for more.
Physics are a bit funky and graphics could be better. But still, the game itself is amazing. Congrats!

Super fun and innovative! Controls are a bit off though, especially jumping. Also the tutorial, while it is really well made and helpful, sometimes restrict doing some things. Like i had figured out that i had to drag henry to the spikes, i couldn't do that until the tutorial told me to. Also the collision with the crushing wall sometimes worked weirdly. Great job though!

@wie Hi! I tried to do a guided experience and in some cases like the one you are commenting ended being a little bit weird. In theory I wanted to give more freedom for posterior levels but I ran out of time. Thank you for playing and the feedback! Cheers :)

Hey, very solid entry. Collisions definitely could use some fiddeling - when I went too close to wall (or Henry), I wasn't able to jump. Nice touch with the story, though you probably should have been less explicit about what is going to happen with Henry. Or not, depends what you were going for. Still pretty solid basis for next jams, definitely keep it up! Looking forward to next submissions of yours!

@honey While I was doing the game I was like, "I've been programing this for one whole day and the theme is nowhere to be seen yet, people are gonna get bored before they see anything related to it!" So I wrote that sentence at the intro. Then, it turned out that my whole day of programming was like 5 minutes of gameplay, so... yeah, I was worried for nothing haha. Collisions really gave me trouble, I've managed to improve them but I'm still not happy. Thank you for the feedback, I like to read new things, hope to see you again too <3
