Blood Money by Dom Harris

A procedurally generated old school shooter!
Blast your way through waves of skeletons with your finger guns, steal their life coins and upgrade your vampiric powers.
We probably spent too much time making the skellies dance to "Thriller", but I'd personally say that is time well spent. Enjoy!
Bugfixes - fixed UI scaling issues - fixed Skelly animation issues

- the file name is painful
- stun is sick with the flame thrower... just locks down everything.
- anything that is attacking or stunned when killed doesn't correctly die
- enemies will attack after dead
- enemies don't fall down if they were doing anything other then walking when they die (alway with the flame thrower + 3x stun combo)
- nice use of the theme
- the prog gen felt cramped and on the 3rd level I had a really hard time finding all the enemies
- Linux version! (this is the version I played).
- It's cool to have audio, and the music is nice.
- Skeletons are very convincing!
On the negative side:
- No sound FX when hit by a skeleton (being hit is one important event in this game!)
- The levels seem rather random, when I died, I couldn't tell if I was restarting from the beginning or from where I left.
- The dynamic shadows are horribly pixelated, and "shifted" (they give the impression than dead skeletons are actually hovering above the ground).
- The ground texture is rather harsh, and difficult to ignore: it's filling a big part of the screen most of the time.
Thank you everyone for the feedback! I'm working on a polish build now to address all the issues 😂
Did my hand clitch through everything? Hell yes.
Did I care? Hello no.
Most fun game I´ve played so far for LD44
the skeleton dance, just love that <3
collisions are not so good, but those animations are very good.
Nice work though!
Overall dynamics and feel of the game could have more work, faster movements, refined aiming maybe. Anyway game is nicely done!
Nice work!
I'll be a little kinder with my rating now that I know this was a technical experiment. Typically one shouldn't choose procedural content when a well crafted linear experience can be just as good, but jams are also for experimenting one's programming skills!

It was absolutely terrifying to be lost in the maze and see a skeleton on the floor and wonder "did I already kill it? Is it going to get back up?" When I first saw the giant skeleton at the end of the first level I screamed and my cat jumped off my lap. What a pleasant experience!
I think it would have made a big difference if the visual for shooting a gun was more obvious. When I was close to the skellies I didn't even see any bullets, and wasn't sure if I was actually shooting (again, no audio cues). It was also jarring to see my hand clip through the walls.
Also please reuse that skeleton dance on a boss fight.
The procedually generated levels are very impressive for a Ludum Dare. Their only downside is, that you sometimes need a little bit of searching to find all the enemies. I had tons of fun until level 5, where I searched for a few minutes to find the last enemy. Besides that: the gameplay is solid, and the art and music give a really nice touch to the overall mood. Nicely done!
