Match the Fleas by DaisyChubb

HTML5 and Windows .exe available
This is the first game I have ever made. I used GameMaker: Studio Pro, GIMP for the artwork (from scratch but I think that's obvious lol) and Audacity to record sounds. Thanks for playing!
Fleas have discovered a new world on the skin of a dirty dog.
Help them to grow their population by matching similar fleas to be their partner. Fleas are looking for a mates of the same colour, but with different interests and personality!
Made in 48 hours for Ludum Dare #38 (Theme: A Small World).
I referenced this tutorial as it was my first ever GameMaker Studio project: GameMaker Tutorial - Make a Memory Match Card Game by SlasherXGAMES (YouTube).
I definitely wanted to expand on this game more than time allowed, so I'm working on 3 part post mortem: Here is Part One
Thanks to everyone who gives it a try!

Well done
I enjoy a lot playing this, its so fun ^^ and i love the sounds!!
Next time I'm definitely going to improve on the graphics and gameplay, thanks for the feedback!
It was my first too, so I totally get that there was more that you wanted to do, but couldn't because of the time limit. The awesome thing is that you finished and made a fun little game! I loved the sound effects and mood.
Just kidding! haha yes totally! I look forward to focusing on graphics for my next jam, it's so much fun and it will be a real challenge! Thanks for playing ;)
If there is one thing you can do to make the game even more interesting it would be to add levels of difficulty by increasing the amount of fleas so that it gets harder to remember and may be to limit the number of attempts so that the player need to pay attention at the beginning. Good job :)
It could be more difficult. But overall you have done a good job!
I hope you will got the 20 ratings to get your result :)
Yes, the randomness is lacking, but I guess you want to dive in further into game making and maybe improve on that for this game.
The gameplay is simple, like memory but a bit different and it has a funny setting.
Go on! :-)
A couple of pointers to keep in mind for next time:
- When the players focus is on the left with all the fleas, the facial expressions of the dog get lost a little bit when you make or miss a match
- The visual difference between the matching fleas was a little too subtle for my taste. _(Maybe something more obvious like merging a "broken heart" type thing could work?)_
- The sounds for good and bad were both pretty happy sounding. So when I started playing I thought I did everything right, but I was doing it wrong apparently .
- Once two fleas are connected they visually still look the same as the once you're selecting. Maybe change their appearance a little once they're locked in.
- Finally, maybe a max number of tries so you could also lose the game. This way there's a little more tension for players to get it right.
Either way, like a said, for a first game, nice job! Especially since it's made within 48hours!!
Hat tip to you :tophat:
Oh, and I would really like it if you rate mine. Link https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/survival-game
Other than that, @rick already said the things I wanted to say. :)
Good job!
You could have made the matching a little more clear, and a more negative sounding noise when you got your couple wrong (I didn't understand I was doing things wrong at first).
